'I have written before about my native country of Kenya and how the success of the movie Out of Africa, based on a book framed around a racist idea of the continent, led to Kenya becoming a leading safari destination. Sure, Kenya receives a lot of foreign cash from tourists, but the idea of the safari is based not only on British colonial hunts that decimated wildlife in east Africa, but also on mass land grabs that displaced communities and rendered them destitute and dependent on tourism for their survival. How much of this story, I wonder, might be replicated in Uganda?'
