This sounds EXACTLY like the ol' Dr. Seuss story....
"The Sneetches are a race of odd yellow bird-like creatures who live on beaches. Star-bellied Sneetches are part of the "in crowd", while plain-bellied Sneetches are shunned by their star-bellied kinfolk and consequently mopey.
Later they become friends with the help of Sylvester McMonkey McBean, the "fix it up chappie", and his Star-On Machine that could add a star to the stomach of a Sneetch. However, the original Star-bellied Sneetches are upset, believing themselves still superior.
McBean offers a solution in the form of his Star-Off Machine, which is capable of removing a star from a Sneetch’s belly, though it costs more money. This caused a cycle of Sneetches running into and coming out of each machine, until none of them could remember who was originally a Star-belly or a Plain-belly.
But after all their money is spent, Sylvester laughs as he packs up his inventions and leaves the land of the Sneetches. The Sneetches then realize they've all been tricked by the monkey, who believes they will never learn their lesson, but is proven wrong when they discover that every Star-bellied Sneetch is as good as the other.
So of all the Sneetches bond together in a whole society where a non-star bellied sneetch has the same rights to activities and the community as any other sneetch and the stars won't matter to any of them."
@bedwardstiek One of my MANY contentions with FB is that in order to ensure that I can send a post to all of my FB friends, I would have to buy an ad.
Sure if you have 5 FB friends, don't bother, but over 150, you start losing reach rapidly.
"10% of the planet's population may become infected over the course of the next 90 days."
No matter where you stand on COVID policies, this is horrible news for everyone.
@Endurance97 I don't iron. If I can't use the fabric refresher stuff, I'm just going to leave the house with wrinkles.
@jeffjarvis I watched the Ukraine piece. But I don't get doing a story about miracles. Is that one of those things that get done b/c someone in corporate says 'this plays with the demo'?
@literature_lady Welcome!
The countdown to Wednesday, the saddest day in Philadelphia history.
I am taking a 4-week online Cultural Anthropology class for WInter 2022 at Community College of Philadelphia. But what is Cultural Anthropology?
The course offering says "Cultural Anthropology examines the nature of culture from the perspective of anthropology. The course is a survey of language, kinship, social structure, political organization, technology, economic systems, culture change, art and religion. It uses a cross-cultural approach, with examples from literate and non-literate societies of the world. Both economic and cultural globalization processes are examined."

@jeffjarvis @jayrosen_nyu Great...a guy best known for running a fake news show is the CEO of a whole network...sounds like a TV mockumentary.
@hacks4pancakes I only know one person that was on Twitter for a long time and made it her primary social media channel. I think she was on of the first 10,000 users. So I could see if she didn't have a backup account. I would think most people migrated to Twitter from another social media site. If that was MySpace, well, there's no going back there...it's the ghost of Twitter Future...

"“The Sixers did not answer the question,” said Yuming Wang, honorary chairman of the Pennsylvania United Chinese Coalition. “It seemed to me they did not do any study before they wanted to start the project. So they were not able to give us good answers.”"
Again, only one person wants this stadium.
"Loud cascades of boos, shouts and catcalls rained upon a 76ers representative from more than 200 people who packed a Chinatown restaurant Wednesday night to question and criticize the team’s plan for a new, $1.3 billion arena on Market Street, the Inquirer reports."

@freemo It sounds amazingI I want to see if my alma mater is teaching this.
@taxgirl We'll just have to create some chatter.
You want soccer chatter? These new soccer balls are bad for the game. The older ones were heavier so you could really put a bunch of foot energy into 'em. You could really wop 'em!
