Hey local Qoto.net folks: have you had issues with folks you know not being able to follow you? If this server is being blocked from other servers because of overly-permissive “I’m just debating” BS, I’m gonna jump ship and head to mstdn.science (maybe??)

@jeremysayz Havent seen that, havent had the issue. Im not a professional academic or scientist though.

@jeremysayz
There are a few servers blocking Qoto, yes. And they in turn will likely be blocked by other servers too. That's the nature of the thing.

In general Qoto blocks no other servers. This instance is one of the most connected servers around because it refuses to play a game of server politics like this. The reason also has a history that you can read up here: qoto.org/@freemo/1093198179438
Not to change your mind, just to make you understand.

If you have issues following friends because of their servers blocking Qoto, then that's something you'll have to discuss with each other. Either they move to Qoto or a server which federates with Qoto, or you move to their server or a server that federates with theirs. A second account is also a possibility if you want to deal with that.

Not much we can do about other servers blocking us. They're always free to federate with us.

Whatever you decide, I wish you all the best!

@trinsec thanks. That’s very helpful. Mostly I’m trying to make sure I haven’t inadvertently put myself on some unreachable Mastodon island. Are there any metrics on how many (and WHICH) other instances block Qoto?

@jeremysayz I don't have any statistics. Possibly @freemo can shed more insight into this than I do.
