@radiocron@mastodon.social @jmgrohneuro I thing Sam Wang from Princeton is on post. Just curious why post and not medium or gitub pages or other self-hosted site?
@JustinDerrick you’re not alone! We just have to ramp up awareness of what’s happening. Ford is attacking so many things at the same time. I’ve decided to focus my efforts on protecting Ontario Place. See https://ontarioplaceforall.com for how you can join the resistance! https://ontarioplaceforall.com

@SussilloDavid @MatteoCarandini @Neurograce @NicoleCRust @cian @dbarack @DrYohanJohn really? I think CNN qualify as emergent in the sense that a trained CNN had properties that the same number of disconnected nodes does not have. I agree that networks with internal dynamics are qualitatively different than those without but “emergence” is not a word I would choose to distinguish between them.
@freemo why don't i have a checkmark next to my weblink - i added the `<a rel="me"...` link.
What do early-career researchers have to say about our new publishing model?
Members of our Early-Career Advisory Group share their reactions to our recent changes, outlining the challenges and risks as they see them and the bold steps needed to revolutionise research communication.

The Ideology 2.0 dataset (N > 280,000) is available. The data was collected on Project Implicit in the mid-2000s with a very diverse sample who were randomly assigned to complete semi-random subsets of individual difference, implicit, and explicit measures.
You can explore a small portion of the data to prepare Registered Reports. Upon acceptance, you will receive the confirmatory dataset.
The deadline for requesting the exploratory data is December 15, 2022.
Big welcome to @turrigiano!
Gina is professor at Brandeis. Have you ever heard that the brain recalibrates to maintain its stability over time? Or the term "homeostatic plasticity" in particular? If so, that's probably Gina.

Gina won't throw it in your face, but she has many more accolades than I have characters: MacArthur Genius, Pres of SFN, National Academy ...
And fascinating interests, like this:

@carlosbrody @PessoaBrain @NicoleCRust @neuralengine I know exactly how long ago it was :).

In case you were discouraged from applying for the HHMI call (March 2023) because past winners all had Nature/Science/Cell papers, @leslievosshall says the times are a-changing and all outstanding scientists should apply this round!

@emenel
Hopefully there will be some results in lowering the trajectory...
Dear fellow scientists, I know it's been said many times before but please please make a Google Scholar page and make it public? It makes life so much easier when going through tens and tens of unknown names (like I'm doing right now to help select symposia for a conference): one can find your latest papers, your most cited papers, etc. And if you have some principled objection to Scholar or to their stock-market-style citation counter, I get it and that's fine, but at least do orcid.org?
- Our next gen headstages have two channels of opto and active torque free commutator (https://open-ephys.org/next-gen-acquisition-system; https://open-ephys.github.io/onix-docs/)
- For the legacy system, there are a lot of people who successfully use cheap slip ring for the SPI cable with through bore. They then seat a fiber commutator in the bore.
@PessoaBrain this is my new favorite paper on the neural basis of consciousness. Thanks for the tip!

4 lectureships in #neuroscience in Bristol, UK. (2 junior, 2 senior).
Offers £39,745 - £68,823. (Not a typo, unfortunately.)
Not wanting to single out Bristol here, note all UK universities offer these ridiculously low salaries. The expectation, I can only guess, is that your partner with a higher salary subsidises the university via the institution of marriage, or you are independently wealthy, or choose not to have a family.
