Dear David, Matt and Jon, thank you for helping me to figure out the dual color brush options in Krita, which are so so many I still can't believe it. And it works like a charm. I am very very grafefull.

I saw a discussion about oil prices, and it reminded me of something that is truly rare in this day and age:
I still go to the full-service gas (petrol) station near my house, run by a husband and wife, and they have those old-timey pumps where the numbers roll by on a cylinder. They have two: one with ethanol and one without.
Tammy comes out to the car to pump your gas, and if you need anything else, like air in your tires, you roll in front of the service bay and Marsh takes care of that (for free, unless you need a nail removed from a tire and a plug, which is five or ten bucks). Tammy always brings me peppermint sweets with my credit card receipt to sign. And I ask about her family, some of whom I've met, and the latest cruise they went on. She also gives me suggestions for where I can get more fun funky clothes that I like.
I can get pics or videos if Y'all ever want to see the old pumps still in use in this day and age.
Just found a real Mandelbrot fractal happily flourishing in its natural habitat... 😁
Found it after some searching:
But now, as an evolutionary biologist, I say the following. If these creatures are not conscious, then what the hell is consciousness for?
He's missing the point. Intelligent, conscious beings devised speech and came up with all human utterances. An LLM just copies and pastes bits of language that humans have already uttered. What the two entities do is not the same at all.
According to this theory, pain needs to be consciously felt in order to be sufficiently painful to resist overruling.
Again, no. If Dawkins had ever written an optimiser, he'd know that's not true. As you will know (but bystanders may not), you write a cost function (which says how bad a solution is) and a bit of code to find some configuration with a suitably low cost. If there's some configuration that you want to forbid absolutely, you give it such a high cost that the optimiser will never choose it. I've done this, and it works. There's no need to posit consciousness in a piece of software.
This article is sloppy in too many places for me to take it seriously. I agree with you: he has AI psychosis.
I'd dare say he is already doing that through family and friends. Time will tell.

This #PoliticalCartoon by Bill Bramhall shows some of Trump's goons overreacting to James Comey exercising his right to #FreeSpeech. The court case brought against Comey is a waste of time and money.
Steve Rattner: "Trump's net worth has nearly tripled in his second term, reaching $6.5 billion. The Trump Administration is the most brazenly self-enriching in American history."

I'm a bit sick of the poker table metaphor.
It's a war, not a game. Even if the stakes were the same, the rules and the strategies are totally different.
The main reason Trump has stuck the US in this nonsense is because his point of view is the one of a poker player or a businessman, which is a totally absurd take on it.
War is not logical, is not simple, is not a matter of pressing. It is highly illogical, wildly chaotic, and there is no way those morons at Washington are going to fix it in a way that Trump can paint as a victory.
Which is really bad, since they are the only ones that can realistically can fix it. And Trump never concedes defeat.
Well, one of these two things have to yield.

I got down from the bird and jumped onto the mastodon. Went from #science to software development, mostly #webdev.
