I found a lot of truth in this NYT op-ed.

"Trump’s disinhibition spoke to and for his voters. He won because of it, not despite it. His critics have long argued that he is just conning his voters — making them feel that he’s fighting for them when he’s just in it for himself and his wealthy allies — but part of Trump’s appeal is that his supporters recognize the con, that they feel that they’re in on it."

..."The irony of one of the more common critiques of Harris — that her “word salad” moments and default platitudes in extended interviews made it hard to know what she believed — is that Trump manages to seem real even when his positions shift and his words weave. Authenticity does not require consistency or clarity when it is grounded in pitch-perfect cynicism."

"...For those who have long insisted that Trump is “not who we are,” that he does not represent American values, there are now two possibilities: Either America is not what they thought it was, or Trump is not as threatening as they think he is. I lean to the first conclusion, but I understand that, over time, the second will become easier to accept. A state of permanent emergency is not tenable; weariness and resignation eventually win out. As we live through a second Trump term, more of us will make our accommodations. We’ll call it illiberal democracy, or maybe self-care."

This is a time to get as many people out of Gaza and the Ukraine as possible. I know there are lots of scammers out there, so if you know a legitimate charity that's really doing the work, drop it in the comments.

I think it's going to be more important than ever that #Mastodon and the #fediverse are not centrally operated out of the US unlike almost every other social media platform out there.

I'm talking at a conference later this year (on UX+AI).

I just saw an ad for the conference with my photo and was like, wait, that doesn't look right.

Is my bra showing in my profile pic and I've never noticed...? That's weird.

I open my original photo.
No bra showing.

I put the two photos side by side and I'm like WTF...

Someone edited my photo to unbutton my blouse and reveal a made-up hint of a bra or something else underneath. 🤨

Immediately, I email the conference host.
(FYI he is a great, respectable guy with 5 kids at home.)

He is super apologetic and immediately looks into the issue.

He quickly reports back that the woman running their social media used a cropped square image from their website.

She needed it to be more vertical, so she used an AI expand image tool to make the photo taller.

AI invented the bottom part of the image (in which it believed that women's shirts should be unbuttoned further, with some tension around the buttons, and revealing a little hint of something underneath). 🤯

FYI the conference organizers were super apologetic and took down all of the content with that photo.

Tried to pick a shirt that captured today’s vibe

A felony can keep you from a job at McDonald’s but not the presidency? Make it make sense.

@dphiffer

Is there any way to make my feed chronological?

I really, really hate this random shit. I'm fed up of being served old post I have read three times and not finding the new ones.

A moment like this highlights an advantage to strictly chronological feeds, where maybe I don't want to see something posted 21 hours ago right next to something posted 21 minutes ago.

@CorioPsicologia
