One thing we see in the US is a continual arms race to bigger and bigger vehicles, partly due to this “safer than thou” mentality, partly machismo. But when it’s normalized, narrow streets start to be seen as the problem instead of the vehicles. The streets become one-way, parking is terrible, the roads are torn up by the extra weight.
And you never, ever see any cargo being carried.
First and foremost: large vehicles are safer for the people in them, but much less safe for those around them. They crush smaller cars. Small children cannot be seen if close to the front. The headlights blind me when one of these is behind me in the road. They block sight lines. I think that wanting a big truck is basically anti-social.
This goes double for cybertrucks.
@fj I wish they’d be largely banned from American roads, too.
Keep these monstrosities off our roads 🙅♂️
"US carmakers have accused Brussels of keeping their largest pick-up trucks, including the Ford F-150, the Chevy Silverado and the Ram 1500, off European roads”

“We have heard with deep sorrow the words coming from Donald Trump warning that an entire civilization—the population of Iran—could face total destruction. These threats are truly unacceptable. The idea that millions of innocent men, women, and children could be condemned to death under the pretext of national security is an affront to human dignity and a blasphemy against the Creator of life."

Dear @EUCommission,
The president of our American "ally" has threatened a whole country with utter annihilation, and not a single "concerned" has been heard from you.
Feeling useless much?
Concerned regards,
--An European citizen
Trump would not have been possible if the entire US political system, on a bipartisan basis, had not become a game of elite impunity, if it had not nullified any accountability for political actors, and if it had not repeatedly encouraged imperial military violence under multiple administrations, shrugging off any sense of moral responsibility for the death, chaos, and misery the country unleashed each time. This is the result of a political culture that whines about "purity tests."
European here.
Remember: Olympic games went ahead with Hitler as host. And the World Cup is bigger for many countries than the Olympic games.
Everything else: if you made a mess of your home, don't ask your neighbors to come and fix it. We have enough with the rats and the stink you are sending us. And you haven't done really anything meaningful against him during his first 5 YEARS of presidency. You elected him, it is your work to clean the house. Enough that he is putting his friends in our governments, by war, money or whatever, and pillaging our economies. And you are still doing barely nothing to solve the problem. Protests are nice, but only go so far. Really, you are asking us to do more than you are doing. You haven't even organized a general strike, and you are asking us to cut trade with you? Seriously? Do you have any idea of how much would we lose by doing that?
We have been nearly a year in shock about what you did (electing HIM again? SERIOUSLY?), and learning how to cope with it. We are starting to put him limits (Forbid military bases use to attack Iran? Call bullshit of his tariff threats? Done), but most of the measures you mention hurt ourselves the same or more than they hurt the US, directly or indirectly. The ties that bind us are too deep.
Do you want a divorce? You can bet we are talking with our lawyers. But we are not Trump, we do think before act, and try not to fire upon our own feet. Most of people around here feels betrayed by the US, and wants to remove any kind of military or digital dependence on the us ASAP. So even if you manage to get rid of that clown and put a sane person in his throne, don't expect us to forget this. We are very US-aholic, but we know we have to learn to live without it. You are not people we can depend on.
So please stop adding insult to the injury. We are sad and angry enough already.
As an European, sorry for that.
As you can see, the US is not the only one having no shortage of morons.
More wars were lost by desperation than bombs.
Me bajé del pájaro y me subí al mastodonte. Pasé de la #ciencia al desarrollo de software, sobre todo #web.
I got down from the bird and jumped onto the mastodon. Went from #science to software development, mostly #webdev.
