Feliz triste cumple, Pamplonetario.

Want to know what climate change will look like?

The drought in Tehran has gotten so bad that people are seriously talking about evacuating the city!

"Tehran — the richest city of Iran, the most politically powerful city with more than 15 million in the metropolitan — is facing day zero in a few days or a few weeks," said Kaveh Madani, director of the United Nations University's Institute for Water, Environment and Health.

"Day zero" means NO WATER.

All of Iran is in a drought — the worst in nearly 60 years. Tehran has had no rain at all since the start of September, and no rainfall is expected for the foreseeable future.

The city depends on five major reservoirs for its water: Lar, Latyan, Amir Kabir, Mamlu and Talegan. Lar Dam is at only 2% of its capacity, while Latyan is 9% full. Amir Kabir, one of the most important dams for Tehran, is 11% full. Mamlu reservoir is only 1% full. Only Taleqan remains above one-third.

Right now the incompetent government is *talking* about rationing — but water pressure is already down to zero at night in many neighborhoods. Young Tehranis are tracking water pressure with crowd-sourced maps, shading parts of the city in red to show almost constant outages. Meanwhile, some rich neighborhoods still fill their swimming pools.

I'm not saying this drought is solely due to climate change, nor that climate change will cause droughts everywhere. But this is the sort of thing we should expect: prolonged droughts in some areas, leading eventually to mass migrations.

Hey, have you heard about the "Sweet Track"?

It's this ancient wooden walkway discovered in the British Isles that's over 5,800 years old. Can you believe it? It's actually the second oldest timber trackway they've found in the area.

This cool pathway was built to help people cross the marshy terrain back in the Neolithic days. The way it’s been preserved really shows how resourceful our early ancestors were.

#archaeohistories

Methods of preservation:
Pickling - we make the environment too acidic for rot.
Salting - we make the environment too salty for rot.
Drying - we make the environment too dehydrated for rot.
Freezing - we make the environment too cold for rot.
Fermentation - we embrace the rot.

Can we just replace "influencer" with "internet dipshit" for clarity's sake?

It’s a fascinating thing to watch a video essay like this (The 1950s Ruined Everything, the points therein I am 110% in agreement with) and realize *just how much* our relationship (at least in America) with urbanism, art, and technology is either a MASSIVE reset to undo the many harms of that era, or a societal struggle to wrestle with the very real harms perpetuated today by self-serving capitalists who have yet to acknowledge the dangers of such a failed worldview.

Migrants didn't cut council funding.
Migrants didn't raise energy bills.
Migrants didn't close community centres.

Know what would help solve Scotland’s problems? Taxing the super-rich and building an affordable country for all.

Let’s talk about sedition and treason, because the most powerful yet inadequate man in the world is having a tantrum about it, and his soulless, spineless sycophants are boosting his message. /1

Just in case you had the slightest doubt about what Elon Musk is doing with X/Twitter, look at this brief thread. He is one of the true monsters of our era, and he uses X/Twitter to guide his fellow right-wing extremists to ever-more-extreme places.

If you are still there, you should be ashamed.

I was tempted to make this post "Avi Loeb Claims Millions of Spaceships Found" but decided against it.

As a reminder, the notion that people should be able to maintain "a clean, well-organized household" came from the 19th century Western "upper classes" where the wife was expected to stay home and do this full time - and this was used as a status symbol and status marker to distinguish the affluent from the working classes, where women almost always had to work in (poorly paid) jobs in order to keep the household budget afloat.

Therefore, this notion is not only #Sexism but also #ClassWarfare . Thus, when someone presents this kind of "lifestyle" as something you should aspire to (whether a tv show, an Influencer, or a glossy magazine), you should really contemplate what kind of political agenda they are trying to sell to you.

Now, if you _enjoy_ keeping a household in a good, clean order, more power to you! Everyone needs their passion projects, after all! But it should not be the _expected_ thing - particularly for people who are already overwhelmed by the demands this late-stage Capitalist hellscape places on us!
