As a reminder, the notion that people should be able to maintain "a clean, well-organized household" came from the 19th century Western "upper classes" where the wife was expected to stay home and do this full time - and this was used as a status symbol and status marker to distinguish the affluent from the working classes, where women almost always had to work in (poorly paid) jobs in order to keep the household budget afloat.

Therefore, this notion is not only #Sexism but also #ClassWarfare . Thus, when someone presents this kind of "lifestyle" as something you should aspire to (whether a tv show, an Influencer, or a glossy magazine), you should really contemplate what kind of political agenda they are trying to sell to you.

Now, if you _enjoy_ keeping a household in a good, clean order, more power to you! Everyone needs their passion projects, after all! But it should not be the _expected_ thing - particularly for people who are already overwhelmed by the demands this late-stage Capitalist hellscape places on us!

Debido a una biografía (más o menos reciente) malísima de Mary Shelley que se convirtió mágicamente en canon por cuestiones que no acabo de entender, se ha extendido la idea de que la escritora no soportaba a Lord Byron, que el famoso reto de Villa Diodati del que surge "Frankenstein" fue una manera de librarse de él y de que, en líneas generales, Byron era con ella poco menos que un acosador, un pelma y un tipo despreciable. Esto es una aberración, no solamente llegaron a quererse mucho, sino que se tenían una enorme admiración mutua (por supuesto que tuvieron sus idas y venidas y también se hicieron daño, sobre todo por ese entender Byron la vida como un galope solitario imparable). Como ejemplo de ese cariño a vuelapluma: hay un capítulo en «Mary Shelley's early novels», de Jane Blumberg, titulado «Connected in a thousand ways» en el que se explica muy bien como Mary se sentía muy estimulada por la «energía intelectual» de Byron, cómo compartían la misma curiosidad por las cosas, charlaban durante horas y, de hecho, las obras de Byron le resultaban más afines e interesantes que las de su marido (a quien también adoraba y admiraba). Ella misma escribe en una carta a Percy: «vuelvo una y otra vez a la profunda desolación del poema de Byron [se refiere a The Darkness], es compartida por Frankenstein. Me entristeció profundamente ver el lago, las montañas (se refiere a Villa Diodati, donde estuvieron los tres juntos, también con Claire Clermont, en 1816) y los rostros asociados a esas escenas pasaron ante mí. El momento de disfrute ya solo vive en la memoria. ¿Por qué la vida no es un momento continuo donde las horas y los días no se cuentan?».
El título del capítulo, ese «Connected in a thousand ways» es una expresión de la propia Mary para describir su relación afectiva e intelectual con Byron.
