@podcastlinux Hola, Juan. Al hablar de #Slackware, algunos de los datos introductorios que diste eran incorrectos. No es que haya mayor problema, porque los importantes, que son los técnicos, estaban bien.

Lo que sí eché de menos fue alguna mención a la versión de desarrollo (Slackware -current), a los repositorios de paquetes de terceros (como slackbuilds.org) o a herramientas que ayudan a automatizar las dependencias, como slackpkg o sbotools. También, quizá, hablar de que la filosofía que guía la distribución es más parecida a los BSD que a las demás distros de Linux, o que es de las pocas que no usa systemd, lo cual ahorra muchísima memoria, dicho sea de paso.

Otros detalles interesantes son que los paquetes se obtienen directamente a partir del código fuente que publican los desarrolladores, de modo que no tenemos, por poner un ejemplo, veinte paquetitos para php, sino uno solo lo más completo posible. Lo mismo con las librerías: ¿recuerdas cuando decían: “Tienes que instalar X, pero acuérdate de que en Ubuntu el paquete se llama Y-dev”? En Slackware no hay nada de eso. Las librerías se instalan tal como vienen del desarrollador y se llaman igual.

Para mí, el problema de Slackware a la hora de convertirse en una distribución popular es que necesitas pasar un tiempo con ella para apreciarla. Te pongo un ejemplo: en el trabajo me obligaron a usar Ubuntu. Yo me llevé mis scripts de Slackware para dejar el entorno a mi gusto. ¿Qué pasó? Que Ubuntu tiene sus propias ideas acerca de qué código debe ejecutarse al hacer login (te coloca scripts en tu home al crear el usuario, que a mí con eso se me llevan los demonios) y fue todo un lío de depuración, pérdida de tiempo, etc.

Pero, por lo demás, muy buen episodio, como siempre. Y perdona la turra.

ps. Ah, la palabra ‘slack’, en su sentido original, no hace referencia a la libertad de pensamiento, sino a la felicidad de vivir sin preocupaciones, y en el caso concreto de Slackware, a la tranquilidad que da usar un sistema que funciona con sencillez y sin problemas. Por cierto (y como curiosidad), los subgenios tienen su propia instancia de Mastodon (dobbs.town), pero Patrick Volkerding está en fosstodon.

Whenever you (yes, you!) fail to entertain me, I go to my profile and read my own posts. Do I do that because they're awesome and full of atemporal wisdom? Yes, but that's not important right now. What matters is that you should step up your game, people! Be more interesting!

@amerika But, if you already bought a dishwasher, you probably don't want any more dishwashers. That's the point. They don't distinguish between something you won't have to buy again in years, and a book or a record, which you may be buying frequently.

People assume “algorithms” are these omniscient entities, when in reality they're pretty simple, even plain dumb in most cases. Problem is, people give them credit for their own shortcomings, which is cowardly and immature, in my opinion.

By the way, what I wanted to add was that they should charge much more. They're billionaires, after all. They don't give a fuck about paying a shitton of money for stuff, as long as it's not for the common good (i.e., taxes).
