@prettygood Maybe you're right. I have a coworker who has a Swiss Army knife and he's always offering it to everyone at the slightest opportunity.
@camelliakyoto I have never been a fan of Michinaga. I blame him for the death of Empress Teishi and the fall from grace of Sei Shonagon. Also, Murasaki Shikibu, who worked for him, badmouthed Sei in her diary. I have never read Genji Monogatari because of that.
The place is beautiful, though. Thank you for the pictures.
I am a reply guy and I approve this message.
(Seriously, people who are eager to talk and pontificate but not to listen piss me off.)
@lydiaconwell I don't know who played bass on Helter Skelter, but I know who played drums and got blisters on his fingers. That's all I need to know, really.
Wrong. My old blog stopped working because browsers decided (from one day to the next) that local CSS (i.e., CSS rules that were only valid on one part of the document) was too hard to maintain. For me, however, it was a great idea, because it meant that I could introduce CSS in a post or a page without having to modify the whole theme.
@schappi I work better with multiples of 10. To use your own example, I would do:
30*7 = 21*10 = 210
8*7 = 56
210 + 56 = 266
If I used 5 (10/2), I would have to divide and I'm not good at that, to be honest. Same with subtraction.
@schappi That's how I multiply in my head. How do people who actually know maths do it?
@lydiaconwell Primer is the whitest movie I have ever seen. I don't mean that in a bad way, but in a weird one. The idea came into my head as I was watching it and still can't put into words what I meant by that. There are movies where there is not a single character who is not a WASP, and still they are less white than Primer. Other than that, I think it was overrated.
@iris Me cae bien, preséntamela. Aunque no uso Signal. ¿Le va bien Briar o Jami?
@prettygood For people, like me, who use NewPipe to listen to this, here's my advice: download the audio, because the video has no sound. Then listen to the episode using VLC or whatever. The good stuff starts at the 20-minute mark approximately.
@mangeurdenuage I'm not talking about complexity. I'm talking about how certain pieces of technology are made indispensable by capitalism. Cars were made indispensable by selling them as, basically, “freedom on wheels.” The same happens with mobile phones today: you need one to operate with your bank, you need it for work, most of your life is inside it. You should be able to interact with technology on your own terms, but it's getting more and more difficult. That's what I meant by “if a significant portion of your life depends on having any piece of technology on you at all times, you're a slave.” I love technology, but I want to be able to walk away from it whenever I feel like it.
@mangeurdenuage @OpenTech_AUC If a significant portion of your life depends on having any piece of technology on you at all times, you're a slave. But if, on top of that, you have to pay for it, you're doubly so. Free software has nothing to do with this particular problem, I'm afraid.
I may be late to the party (apparently it was republished in 2016), but still a pretty good article if you haven't already read it. One thing it does not address, however, is the question of what triggers that something in people to become nazis. That is where I think the key lies. It is a work of years, to make them feel unwanted, unloved, unappreciated, and then get someone to uplift them. They will become as faithful as dogs, and, in my opinion, once we reach our breaking point, we all have it in us, so let's be careful.
@OpenTech_AUC If you own an iphone, you're not resisting capitalism, but immersing yourself in it. The peasants who killed their feudal lord didn't buy the fucking pitchforks: they just took them and didn't even ask for permission.
@jameshowell I must admit I would ask you about your cats, just like I always ask Cobb about Loom in The Secret of Monkey Island. I would mean no disrespect in either case, it's just that the invitation seems so tempting.
Mamarrachos.
If BigTech companies are rewriting GPL-licensed critical, battle-tested infrastructure and rewriting it in MIT-licensed Rust (“Remember, remember the 18th of November”), that means there must be something about the GPL that they don't like, and so we must preserve it at all costs.

I am, without a doubt, the most interesting person I know.
