Here's an academic survey on sustainability of music technology, being conducted by a Master's student who consulted me while planning the project. (To be clear: not my formal advisee, I'm not actually a real academic anymore, but one never completely escapes.) If you're a user of synthesizers etc. - and I know there are a number of such in this place, as well as "sustainability" fans - it'd be nice if you could fill it out and circulate it. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/YG33FX2
Political freedom without economic equality is a pretense, a fraud, a lie; and the workers want no lying.

Privacy Browser PC 0.6 has been released.
While this is obviously an exaggeration, it is not too far from my own experience. I have two monitors at work, of which I use only one (the other is for pasting post-its). When someone asks me why I don't use both, my response is always the same: “I can resize and minimise windows just fine. And if I ever need to see two things at once, I have tmux for that.” I would like to have a bigger monitor, though, because old age takes its toll on one's sight.
I don't vote, because I firmly believe that if you vote, you have no right to complain.

In a world that is buckling under the weight of profit making, that is overrun by the destructive sirens of Techno-science and the power hunger of globalization -- that new brand of slavery -- beyond all that, friendship exists, love exists.

A few days ago, I made a tongue-in-cheek comment in the #slackware forum on LQ about the behaviour of some regulars being suspiciously similar to that of Jia Tan towards the xz maintainer. Some people took it seriously and I had to clear out the misunderstanding.
But, to be honest, I was only half-joking. The people I was referring to were pushy and dismissive of others' ideas and opinions. They still are.
The thing is, I was reading the forum today and saw them gatekeeping like they owned the place (“If you don't like Slackware as it is, you don't have to use it.” Dude, you never liked it as it was. You've been pushing for your own agenda for years), and I thought that maybe I was on to something.

"Hertfordshire sweet shop owner Phyllis Arrandale originally bought a computer to help out with her accounts, but was so impressed with it that she began programming software of her own. Now, she is attempting to make a printed circuit board, with the ultimate aim of making her own computer from scratch."

All about for the #BarcelonaDeclaration official launch webinar!
My company has just announced that there will be a round of layoffs soon. They just laid off a bunch of C-levels. They're giving us the opportunity to "opt in" to "workforce reduction" with a promise of three months severance.
It's been pretty tumultuous here, lately, to be honest, and I'm considering it.
But, I've got a wife and four kids to take care of, and I've never willingly left a job when I didn't have another one already lined up. And we've got good benefits (healthcare and dental) right now, so I really don't want to give that up.
Maybe if I had something lined up with similar pay and benefits, I could do it.
So, I'm looking for any recommendations. I'm a #PHP developer (of roughly twenty years), who has been doing a lot of #golang for the past year, and I've gotten very proficient at that as well.
I'm looking for a US-based company, and a Principal/Staff/Senior Developer role.
Anybody have any good leads? My website is at https://danielrayjones.com, and I can be emailed at dan@danielrayjones.com.

👣THE PHILOSOPHER'S BLOSSOMS🌸
The Path of Philosophy runs between Nanzen-ji and Ginkaku-ji.
It came to prominence after the philosophers and Kyōto University professors Nishida Kitarō (西田幾多郎 1870-1945) and Tanabe Hajime (田辺元 1885-1962) used the trail as an exercise route.
