@notawizard I usually put some background music in my videos (while talking). I didn't know that it can be distracting for some people. I do it mainly to hide noise from my mic and to gain some quality boost in the overall experience.
@notawizard Haha, I must say that I did not experience that so far but if that is the trend?, hm, doesn't sound good 🤔
@josipretrobits
It actually made me wish that video files and videos hosted online could have multiple audio tracks/channels.
Then music could be put into a different channel and viewers could manage the volumes separately.
Plus it would be easier for people to make videos in multiple languages and not have to reshoot the video.
I think that would be good for news too where they want to overlay commentary over an original source video.
@notawizard That is actually a really good idea! We already have a technology that can do that (5.1) so we can just use it in a different way... 👍
@josipretrobits
I wish I could fund it, but my bitcoin is now only worth 12 cents, so I will have to wait for the next bubble.
😜 🤣
@notawizard Bitcoin is great, You just need to have a lot of patience with it...
When You do find it, I hope that price will be a lot bigger :)
@notawizard @josipretrobits it's not a limitation on MP4 as that can have multiple tracks, even VLC supports this at play back.
So it's down to the hosting platforms
Ah, true, I never thought about checking to see if they can be played simultaneously or whether they can have volume controlled separately.
Things like DVDs can have multiple audio tracks, but all I've seen is the ability to just choose one at a time. Maybe as you say, it's a feature of the devices/players that enforce this limitation.
@notawizard @josipretrobits Yes could be down to players.
An alternative is 1 track for commentary + music and 1 track for just commentary.
Can't be difficult as how else do they do audio description on DVD's or say Netflix etc?
@notawizard @josipretrobits Ah, YouTube announced this last October:
Multi-audio tracks and descriptive audio feeds: We're testing, with a small group of creators, the ability to add multiple audio tracks on their videos which will help provide multi-language audio for international audiences as well as descriptive audio for people who are blind or low-vision. We hope to roll this feature out more widely in the coming quarters.
@peter @josipretrobits
Well there go my dreams of making it big with a patent. ;) 😄
@notawizard @peter It is still You from who I heard it first so... 😋
@josipretrobits
Yours is normally very quiet so it's easy to hear you.
I was watching a guy today doing emacs tutorials and his first two were very quiet like yours, then suddenly video 3 was very loud. The music volume was about the same volume as his voice.
I checked his newer videos and it seemed he switched to loud music permanently. :(
