Does anyone else have trouble focusing on tutorial videos if they're playing music in the background?

I personally find it very distracting and have trouble focusing on what the person is saying, but it seems to be very popular.

Many people listen to music while they work, and many seem to even need some kind of background noise like TVs or radios playing.

But why in tutorial videos specifically? Where the viewer needs to concentrate?

Am I abnormal? Are normal people able to block it out?

@notawizard I usually put some background music in my videos (while talking). I didn't know that it can be distracting for some people. I do it mainly to hide noise from my mic and to gain some quality boost in the overall experience.

Yours is normally very quiet so it's easy to hear you.
I was watching a guy today doing emacs tutorials and his first two were very quiet like yours, then suddenly video 3 was very loud. The music volume was about the same volume as his voice.

I checked his newer videos and it seemed he switched to loud music permanently. :(

@notawizard Haha, I must say that I did not experience that so far but if that is the trend?, hm, doesn't sound good 🤔

@josipretrobits
It actually made me wish that video files and videos hosted online could have multiple audio tracks/channels.

Then music could be put into a different channel and viewers could manage the volumes separately.

Plus it would be easier for people to make videos in multiple languages and not have to reshoot the video.

I think that would be good for news too where they want to overlay commentary over an original source video.

@notawizard That is actually a really good idea! We already have a technology that can do that (5.1) so we can just use it in a different way... 👍

@josipretrobits
I wish I could fund it, but my bitcoin is now only worth 12 cents, so I will have to wait for the next bubble.
😜 🤣
