@mrundkvist For clarity (in hindsight), here is what I see on that link 😂🤣

I keep thinking we've reached the largest anomaly (in terms of absolute magnitude), but that's not the case yet. The #Antarctic departure continues to widen. Apologies if you are tired of seeing me post this same graphic.

@scottdoney Interesting to note how anomalously warm the EEP already is at this time in the evolution -- alongside -- what look like anomalous westerlies in the WPWP; strong ingredients for strong ENSO?

A rather bleak seasonal forecast for the North American this upcoming summer from the . Yikes! 🥵

@mrundkvist Fun song! I was not expecting the Hindi lyrics on that Spotify link though 😁

I used the CO₂ removal (CDR) as time machine analogy to argue that while we need to research and develop CDR because it’s needed in the future, CDR is useless as a climate solution until we decarbonize drastically.

How it started / How it's going

Yes, same paper. Yes, the first one got a lot of attention at the time. Yes, it was just evidently wrong.

I showed my students this movie of how atmospheric #CarbonDioxide (CO₂) travels around the globe and you should see it too.

What's wrong with the story?

These figures are based on a laughable "fake paper detector" that literally consists of the following ONLY:

1) do authors use private (non-institutional) email addresses and

2) have no international coauthors

That's it.

If these criteria are met, the paper is deemed a "potential red-flag fake publication" and counted toward that 30% tally.

(The authors later also check to see more than 10% of the citations go to papers that also fulfill these criteria.)

Get this: they can determine the sex and the population-genetical affiliation of a person who lived 20,000 years ago by sampling a pendant she wore. They have no other remains of her body. In recent years we have alse seen ancient human DNA being recovered from chewed birch pitch and floor dirt!
