Have been wrestling with it all night and can get neither the gdm3 nor the lightdm GUI to work with my #Xubuntu installation on this old laptop.
Tried purging, updating and reinstalling both, to no avail.
I am going to give some other #Linux distros a chance now.
@dimi My sympathies and good luck. I've had my share of Linux desktop adventures but have not been back.
For alternatives, I have heard good words about Pop!_OS.
Also surprised to see MX Linux still on top of the DIstrowatch page hit ranking.
@kemuri I keep trying #Linux every year and almost always struggle so much I ultimately return to #Windows. I think I've had one pain-free installation out of ten.
