From my #EEGManyLabs colleagues (Yuri and Faisal). Please share widely...

Thanks to funding from the UK Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council we are pleased to be able to advertise for two posts.

The first advert is for a Scientific Coordinator (36 months, 1.0 FTE) to help support our >200-strong community of replicating labs, curate the large datasets that are being acquired so that future researchers can gain maximum value from them and perform meta-analyses to provide a complete picture of the replicability of the most influential EEG phenomena. You can apply for the role here: jobs.leeds.ac.uk/Vacancy.aspx?

The second is for a Research Fellow (33 months, 1.0 FTE) who can help us leverage the legacy of #EEGManyLabs through open-source tools and resources that make it easier to undertake robust EEG experiments. Details here: jobs.leeds.ac.uk/Vacancy.aspx?

All applications require online submission through the links above. Applications for both positions will close on 13th July (midnight UK time).

The positions will be based at the University of Leeds in the United Kingdom in beautiful Yorkshire.

If you have any questions, do not hesitate to get in touch with Faisal Mushtaq via f.mushtaq@leeds.ac.uk.

Watch Trump lie, lie, lie, lie, while floundering around like a beached fish on sizzling sand.

FOR THE LOVE OF ALMIGHTY GOD, PUT THIS CRIMINAL IN PRISON WITH A BALL GAG. twitter.com/Acyn/status/167091

The irony of the right-wing shouting about 'free speech' while simultaneously demanding censorship of any ideas that challenge their fragile beliefs is truly a masterpiece of hypocrisy.

Looking for #neuroscience? Or #Celegans? or #Drosophila? Or #connectomics? Or #brains, #entomology, #academia, #nativebees? Different place, different approaches – tags here are useful and can be followed.

For accounts, @PhiloNeuroSci selects and comments on neuroscience papers; @eLife and @PLOSBiology publish their papers and digests.

@NicoleCRust challenges us all often; @matrig and @kristinmbranson publish at the intersection of neuroscience and computer science; John @tuthill, @BorisBarbour, Jason Shepherd @jasonsynaptic , @mtarr @gepasi, @cian, @schoppik, @MatteoCarandini, Dan Goodman @neuralreckoning, Bryan @BWJones, @achterbrain, @CoriBargmann and many others publish on neuroscience among other topics.

On open access and #ScientificPublishing there's Stephen Eglen @sje, Stephen Royle @clathrin

I am living many out ... the list is long. One way to find them is via tags like #neuroscience.

Big accounts like Doctorow @pluralistic, @Carl_Zimmer, @jwz, and @timkmak are here too. There are many more.

There are useful bots like, for me, @flypapers – I wish I could filter for neuro-only papers, but the volume isn't high. Then there're neuroscience-specific servers like synapse.cafe and neuromatch.social – their local timelines may reveal further accounts you may like.

Let me be clear.

I will not agree to a deal with House Republicans that protects billions in subsidies for Big Oil while putting the health care of 21 million Americans at risk.

Or that protects wealthy tax cheats while putting food assistance at risk for 1 million Americans.

Electromechanical Engineer, MCN-NET

Primary Work Address: 19700 Helix Drive, Ashburn, VA, 20147 Current HHMI Employees, click here to apply via your Workday account. Janelia Research Campus is a pioneering research center in Ashburn, Virginia, where scientists pursue fundamental questions in neuroscience and imaging. The Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) launched Janelia in 2006, establishing an intellectually distinctive environment for scientists to do creative, collaborative, hands-on work. Our integrated teams of biologists, computational scientists, and tool-builders pursue a small number of scientific questions with potential for transformative impact. We share our methods, results, and tools with the scientific community. It is a uniquely innovative and collaborative atmosphere that reflects HHMI’s reputation for excellence. About the role: The Mechanistic Cognitive Neuroscience NeuroEngineering Team (MCN-NET) serves as a resource across all MCN labs at Janelia, developing groundbreaking engineering tools to further the capabilities of neuroscience research. This position is highly collaborative, with project scopes spanning the needs of different labs and teams. The NeuroEngineer must have strong knowledge of the relevant engineering field’s basic concepts, practices, and procedures, and will be expected to coordinate efforts between MCN labs and Janelia support teams, especially Janelia Experimental Technology and Scientific Computing. Additionally, this role will support Janelia Open Science by creating rigorous documentation for broadly useful tools. The ideal MCN NeuroEngineer candidate will be passionate about supporting significant scientific endeavors and have some experience bridging and communicating across engineering and neuroscience fields. We are currently searching for an MCN NeuroEngineer with a background in electromechanics/mechatronics. What we provide: A competitive compensation package, with comprehensive health and welfare benefits. A research setting that fosters close collaboration between tool builders and biologists. Access to world-class engineering and research facilities. Mentoring and training from experts in diverse fields. The opportunity to support high-impact scientific research across multiple labs. Identify and understand the needs of scientific researchers to develop project requirements and specifications. This will require interfacing with MCN labs and identifying end users who will use the engineering tools post-development. Work collaboratively with MCN labs and Janelia support teams, coordinating project sub-tasks with support teams as needed. Support Janelia Open Science through documentation and resource availability for developed tools. Communicate regularly with end-user labs, providing periodic status updates, as needed. Manage multiple projects simultaneously and effectively prioritize tasks. What you bring: B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, mechatronics, or a related field. Degree in neuroscience or a related field may be considered with demonstrated understanding and practice of applied engineering principles. 3+ years of experience engineering tools for research applications. 2+ years in a neuroscience research setting. Experience with hardware-software integration. Hands-on experience designing, fabricating, and testing electromechanical systems. Programming skills in MATLAB, Python, or equivalent. Additional programming skills in languages such as C++ are desired. Ability to translate needs of scientific researchers into project requirements and specifications.
