Our Notifications are filled with follows from people on this server and it's fantastic to see you all here!

A key thing I've learned about Mastodon: When you find people you know and want to keep up with, don't just follow them — add them to a list!

Merely following is not enough, b/c their posts may not show up in your feed at a time you're logged on. Unlike FB or Twitter, Mastodon has no algorithm to resurface your friends' posts from hours or days ago.

So create a list called "Friends" and check it when you're on. This will ensure that you see what they posted while you were away.

As Mastodon grows, and the number of people you follow increases, your feed will become busier and busier.

As the algorithm here depends purely on the time of tooting and retooting, it might mean you will miss a lot of content you were used to see if you are a part of the #twitterMigration.

You can make sure you never miss toots from certain people by including them in a #list!

Let me introduce myself! My name is Ilenna Jones, I am a computational neuroscientist with keen interest on how dendrites contribute to a singular neuron's ability to compute functions and learn tasks. I build biophysical models of neurons in #pytorch and use #deeplearning principles to investigate how #neuron models can learn and compute given their biologically realistic constraints.

Hope you don't mind if I jump in on the conversation, but have you tried https://fedifinder.glitch.me ? It extracts mastodon accounts from your twitter followers/following who are here and downloads them into a file which you can merge with your account. Worked well for me.
