@jocelyn_etienne I'm coming to a point in my life where I empathize so much with the effects of all the systemic and bureaucratic barriers that #womenInSTEM like Perey surmounted, that reading their stories makes me feel more fatigued than inspired.
But for the younger at heart, here is another accessible description of her achievements. Marguerite Perey, or how lab techs are also scientists & we must dismantle classist as well as racist and sexist barriers.

4 lectureships in #neuroscience in Bristol, UK. (2 junior, 2 senior).

Offers £39,745 - £68,823. (Not a typo, unfortunately.)

Not wanting to single out Bristol here, note all UK universities offer these ridiculously low salaries. The expectation, I can only guess, is that your partner with a higher salary subsidises the university via the institution of marriage, or you are independently wealthy, or choose not to have a family.

the 2nd half is *unpublished* data on #tissue #CD4 #Tcells during #influenza and how they fit into a network of #CD8 #Bcells, #IgA & #NKcells.

I've received feedback from someone working on tumors that some of it brings new perspective on his data. In return I learned some new stuff about bladder cancer.

This open exchange of ideas is why I'm a scientist.

I always wondered how Bell Labs, a private lab, could be so successful and win 9 (!) Nobel Prizes. The answer seems to be a continuous stream of funding and an environment that valued longterm research goals and scientific discovery over progress reports.

The German expression 'na ja" means nothing specific, but can mean a lot of things:

- Oh well.
- I don' t know.
- I don't think so.
- You serious?!
- What can I say?
- I've seen better.
- That's what I just said.
- It's okay, but not really.

So, it will probably get you through every conversation.

Na ja, almost.

Your #Posts, #Boosts and #Follows power the timeline here. YOU are the algorithm.

#Following is king
#Boosting is queen
#Likes are sweet
#FollowingBack is neighborly
#Hashtags get you noticed

Also, if you feel someone you follow is #Boosting to much and cluttering your timeline, simply click the three dots (top right) on their home page and tap #HideBoosts. Much nicer than unfollowing.
