@louis I like your desire to keep the neighbourhood sign-free to start. Good move!

@progo Making it harder to be unsafe (for both driver and pedestrian) seems to be a common and effective tactic in Europe. I wish we'd do it more on this side of the Atlantic!

Sure, there's no good in being right and dead. But flip the whole thing around.

There's nothing stopping you from not noticing the pedestrian with right-of-way and getting away with out penalty.

But what good is being legally innocent if you killed someone?

@Zonz Aha I forgot about that one! I guess I only like it when it's literally true

Like "literally," I kinda hate it when people say "and it always has been" or similar. I know exaggeration has a use and I'm usually certain that's what they're going at, but I can't help but think they're just making themselves look dumb by stating a blatant falsehood

This is ridiculous. I regularly get blaring super-loud annoying unblockable Amber alerts on my phone for kids who have disappeared at locations more than a 4-hour-drive away from me.

But today, there's a missing 10-year-old who disappeared just ten miles away from me, and no alert. I wouldn't have known at all if I didn't have the FEMA app installed and allow it to show notifications.

Want to take a guess what color his skin is?

What is your favourite age of child you've parented and what's the oldest age of child you've parented?

What is your favourite age of child you've parented and what's the oldest age of child you've parented?

@Vo I'm not sure what preciesely you mean by it but if you mean Hawai'ian then I'm in favour of it if it's on a list of basic American-style pizzas

@sabbatical @mike oh yeah, here's my chart of purchase price + cost of gas (based on my local gas price over the last year and the Canadian combined urban/highway fuel economy) vs km driven for the six 2024 model year minivans available in Canada

@sabbatical @mike My guy said Honda would be his number two, even though they are more costly in msrp+gas than vans he likes less, because of things like maintenance cost and resale value

All I need in life is a platform to share what fun fact I just learned without condemnation, interruption, or annoying unnecessary topic changes, and I will be happy.

@mike I asked at shop (a two-man show that has been a great experience so far on every level) for what they'd recommend for a minivan out of curiousity (we're currently driving a 2017 Kia Sedona).

He said new or used, the Toyota is his recommendation for best value for the money and that with proper care, he's seen them (the basic gas engine versions at least) go 400,000km.

I recently compared all the minivans available brand new in Canada, and if you add purchase price plus cost of gas, the Toyota (only available as a hybrid here) becomes the chepest van after about 200,000 km of driving. Cheaper than the plug-in hybrid Pacifica!
