What is your favourite age of child you've parented and what's the oldest age of child you've parented?

@Vo I'm not sure what preciesely you mean by it but if you mean Hawai'ian then I'm in favour of it if it's on a list of basic American-style pizzas

@sabbatical @mike oh yeah, here's my chart of purchase price + cost of gas (based on my local gas price over the last year and the Canadian combined urban/highway fuel economy) vs km driven for the six 2024 model year minivans available in Canada

@sabbatical @mike My guy said Honda would be his number two, even though they are more costly in msrp+gas than vans he likes less, because of things like maintenance cost and resale value

All I need in life is a platform to share what fun fact I just learned without condemnation, interruption, or annoying unnecessary topic changes, and I will be happy.

@mike I asked at shop (a two-man show that has been a great experience so far on every level) for what they'd recommend for a minivan out of curiousity (we're currently driving a 2017 Kia Sedona).

He said new or used, the Toyota is his recommendation for best value for the money and that with proper care, he's seen them (the basic gas engine versions at least) go 400,000km.

I recently compared all the minivans available brand new in Canada, and if you add purchase price plus cost of gas, the Toyota (only available as a hybrid here) becomes the chepest van after about 200,000 km of driving. Cheaper than the plug-in hybrid Pacifica!

100% sure I had this problem when I dislocated and fractured my elbow earlier this year xkcd.com/883/

@sabbatical The question was raised in a dads group chat I'm in.

I thought surely a certain person would say "no, there's no amount of money that would make it worth it" but they basically said at some point the financial benefits outweigh any damages, and 30 days doesn't give much chance for damage.

No one in the group chat is well-off-enough for that other possibility to discuss it, so I have to assume you're right

I keep seeing two numbers used to describe the size of the podcast industry:

"Podcasting is a $2 billion a year industry."

"The podcast industry is worth $20 billion."

Can anyone tell me where these numbers came from and how they're calculated?

(They're often quoted but never cited)

I love soup but I hate serving it. It's so hard to get a fair amount of solids.

@sabbatical yeah. Lets say you're treated well enough you won't need to pay for therapy for yourself at least

Bonus question: ask your spouse the same thing and also if they'd be okay if you did it

Would you allow yourself to get abducted for 30 days for $1 million?

Why are so many of our long weekends here done with a day off on Monday? Why not Friday?

Glengis and I, we're going places. Happy Turkey-dressed-as-Columbus Day.

Gotta love people seeing multiple cards in a row and thinking it means I didn’t shuffle so therefore they get to shuffle for themselves now right in the middle of a game
