I don't understand the response of "oh, did they?" when you tell someone that someone did something. What, do you not believe me? I guess it is kind of like "no way!" or other statements of disbelief but this sounds more… combative?

If I'm understanding the Space Liability Convention correctly, if one of Elon's rockets were to crash on my house and kill me, my family would have to petition the government to petition the US government to charge SpaceX for the damages. buttondown.com/levisan/archive

I want a map where I can click any section of border between two countries and it tells me why. Arbitrary line? Following a visible land feature like a river? Following a subtle land feature like a continental divide? Toddler scribbling on the map?

I’m no philosopher, but…

A sticker that hasn’t been stuck hasn’t fulfilled its purpose.

Call me crazy but it seems ridiculous that APA citation formatting rules dictate changing the letter cases of the title of a source so as to match the rules, rather than using the letter casing used by the author/publisher. One more point added in my personal style-guide.

I don't necessarily disagree but… My family's home is 2200 square feet total, not counting the small two-car garage. There's six of us living here. Sure, we have some extra spaces that we don't "need" like a second room with couches. But if you added up the amount of space we use for storage, not including the bedroom closets, we're easily using 700 square feet to store things like sports gear, seasonal things, games, etc. (That's not counting the stuff "required" to live on 1/3 acre, which is irellevant when comparing to an apartment.)

I think we could feasibly live in 1500 with the only downside being having to share spaces with people doing other things more often.

Sure, a "young family" with 2-3 kids could live in that 1100 square foot space. But I posit they'd need 500 more somewhere in which to store their junk.

The Residence was a fun show. Fantastic music and a neat style of storytelling/editing that saved you from having to remember character names (my nemesis) by visually reminding you of what is being talked about in conversation.

If you're a political party who's candidates are sure to lose their elections and you have an FAQ that doesn't include "Why should I vote for your candidate if there's no way they'll win?" then you're doing it wrong.

I don't understand people who make their entire personal brand about why/how they aren't something. It's so negative and depressing.

Frustrated with other “political compass” type things that are supposed to visualise how your polical opinions are for comparing with friends, I made my own.

Including the one election-related link I plan on sharing and you won't regret clicking it—unlike most election-related links. buttondown.com/levisan/archive

Maybe we need some kind of standardised label (like the nutrition label) on product packaging indicating what percentage of the supply chain chain staff for said product is from the local country. Or an enforced standard of what "prepared in" "made in" "made with" and so on mean.

I think a lot of people get confused when they see a % VALUE ("10% of cats are robots in 2021") and then also see a % CHANGE ("50% more cats are robots in 2022").

They think "10% and 50% more is 10+50=60% of cats are robots in 2022" instead of "10% and 50% more is 10+10*1.5=10% of cats are robots in 2022".

Almost like they are treading the two % signs as the same units but they're not. Similar to accidentally combining ounces (of weight) and fluid ounces.

Maybe just maybe it's a sign that we (the brilliant intellectuals) should avoid saying % change when it's a % value situation

I wonder if there is a molecular difference between heated frothed milk and steamed milk
