@proto_azure Yeah, OK, when I get the chance. Just that I grew up in Philadelphia. This is anecdotal to the max, but take it for what it's worth.

When Mayor Frank Rizzo ran Philly, he increased the police force and knocked crime down.

When Mayor Giuliani ran NYC, crime also went down.

It's not just having more police, but what you do with them that counts.

Now, I have seen parts of Philly with little to no police coverage, and the crime in those parts are pretty high. I have heard shoot-outs there with my own ears.

Now, in doing a proper analysis of say, Philly, one would have to get pretty detailed, neighbourhood by neighbourhood. Because the crime rates in one neighbourhood will overwhelm the stats unless you norm for the police presence -- or lack of the same -- there.

But let me throw this back at you. Would you feel comfortable where you live if there were no police? Why?

Personally, I would argue for more respnsible gun ownership over more police, and John Lott already wrote a book about that, complete with the stats.

@proto_azure And I want what psychoactive substance you've been doping!!!!! :)

Present your studies, please.

Before Covid hit, I was pretty sure Trump would win 2020. Now? Who knows? I really don't understand the craziness that has gripped America right now. I do not recognize the US as the country I grew up in.

@mathlover Then they are playing a dangerous game, from their perspective, because talk of that nature have apparently driven up gun sales, and also may have driven more votes for Trump from those sitting on the fence.

Which, as a Trump supporter myself, don't mind. :p

Blow over? Well, the Democrats have been fanning the flames of "racism" for decades. This is over 50 years since MLK's "I have a dream" speech, and I am both mortified and sickened by what the Democrats are doing now.

The false impeachment, the wrongful claims of collusion with Russia and Ukraine... on and on and on.

Where are the sensible Democrats to say, "Enough is enough?" Silence it not consent? Then why have they not spoken out long ago?

How much more rioting, looting, etc. must occur before they emerge from their cloak of silence?

@mathlover And if they have NOT spoken out against this nonsense, silence is consent.

Defund the police?
This is what happens.
The Democrats... well. Those that want this should be right here:

@mathlover So are the rest of the Democrats calling them out on their abject foolishness?

And so the Democrats want to defund the Police????

Well, if this is the kind of country you want, vote Democrat.

@ujcmtgs4n4jqza Most of the time they are, but not always.

The State that I'm from -- New Hampshire -- trains it cops with para-military techniques. And many States does this.

I had some nasty run-ins with the police in Nashua, NH long ago. I stood up to them. And gave me hell for that for many years following.

So, I really don't like cops in the US at all.

But the craziness coming from the Democrats -- defunding the police -- scares me shitless.

All this craziness over George Floyd. Few are interested in the facts, it seems.

Since I have not had a chance to verify this, take it with a grain of salt. I had thought a vaccine against the Coronavirus to be next to impossible. But perhaps I am wrong.

@schestowitz As I am doing patents these days, this is very interesting to me. Thanks.

@freemo So I would have to guess that Pluto's atmosphere is a lot thicker than the moon by at least a few orders of magnitude!!!! :D
