#phosh 0.40 will correctly detect the #steamdeck's panel orientation and start up in landscape mode now! 🎉

There are still a few rough edges with running pmOS, phosh, and the other UIs we support, on the Steam Deck... but it's still really nice to see one rough edge smoothed out.
pmOS on the Steam Deck, just like the blueberries in the photo, is not quite ready for consumption... 🤞 😄

@dansup Can I download the #pixelfed APK directly? It isn't on #fdroid or #aurorastore and the #apkpure mirrors don't have it either.

SMS Import Export on a new #Android phone took 6 1/2 hours to complete the import. I tested SMS Backup & Restore on the old device and it appears that the 2nd tool deduplicates as well as imports. Now I have to wait for the seemingly unending deletion of those imported SMS and MMS and afterwards spend 4 more hours redoing it.
Is it any wonder why #LinuxMobile can't come soon enough? Someday I will take a hammer to all these Androids.

@purism I happened to be reading the blog and this is the exact #linux #hacker #modder kind of thing I love.
The prospect of 3d printing a back plate with VESA mount means that this size or style device could theoretically be used as add-on displays and double as a grab and go device. I saw someone on #fedi working on the software for such a concept not long ago and even the #valve #steamdeck oled model linked up the decks in a similar way as demonstrated in their killer trailer

I do love the sleek aluminum style and premium feel of the #librem11 but I also feel like this kind of 3d mod is catnip to the Linux community.
In unrelated news I would love to 3d print a Librem 5 back plate or make one out of copper someday, its half pipe dream but if the STL files ever are released with the needed nub clip details I could see those being techie catnip in a sense too. So cool to see mods 😄👍

3D Print with Purism.
Purism makes products that put you, the customer, in control. Generally, Librem devices are easy to disassemble for access to their internals. For the Librem 11, our focus in the first iteration is on the interior components rather than the chassis itself, which means it has an adhesive back.
If you or a friend have a 3D printer, it’s possible to replace that single adhesive component with a modular back cover and screws.

Love this idea, I hope someday to see Steam Decks, Librem 11s and other devices utilized, a lot of people have extra devices that could be used as add-on screens and this idea is a fantastic way to increase their value to the user.

Time to let the cat out of the bag.
I've been working on a new app to use your #Linux phones and tablets as secondary wireless "side displays" (not mirrors). This is based on #GStreamer, x264, #Mutter APIs, and low-latency UDP streaming, and will be designed to work on both ARM and Intel, regardless of hardware acceleration support. (Testing on a #librem5)
This is still at an early stage, and will take some time to become usable. Thoughts and feedback?

The orb itself was designed and built by a handful of people responsible for the actual Steam Deck hardware – some folks who work on the device itself and some who work primarily in the prototyping/fabrication workshop (and some Steam Deck clips made by an accessory designer on Reddit). The networking was a collab between people in the IT group and help from Steam networking (including a couple old retired switches from Steam and a rackmount case from an old Dota event).

Remember kids, there's a pernicious reason why #Google redirects "http://maps.google.com" to "http://google.com/maps".
Because of this redirect, the location permission that you grant to Google Maps also automatically becomes available to Google Search - making your search queries more valuable to advertisers.
