"The institution of American policing lies outside of any meaningful democratic control. … Indeed, anything resembling a root-and-branch transformation of American policing will only ever occur after the public is able to exercise real control over the institution itself.”

@twostraws This playlist was originally called Moody II and fit on a single CD (in 2001), but I tweaked it over the years once iTunes and iPods were a thing. It’s the playlist I put on loop when I want to write code (or now just concentrate). https://music.apple.com/us/playlist/moody-xi/pl.u-7y7tBM6Yd
@rod @icecubesapp@mastodon.cloud Same for me.
@icecubesapp@mastodon.cloud @rod Yes, I’m saying it did not occur to me there would be two, and when I swiped to delete one the app crashed. I expect only one notification now that I have only one version of me.
@rod @icecubesapp@mastodon.cloud Hm, you’re right—I showed up twice in Settings. Deleting the second instance crashed the app, but maybe now I’ll only get one notification each time. Thanks!
@rod @icecubesapp@mastodon.cloud how can you be signed in twice?
@daveanderson Maybe! I’m kinda hoping there are enough of us here to look up the numbers and help route them to the right teams, tho it’s possible Mastodon requires a tag or a boost to be effective. I meant “post” in the broadest sense tho—on Mastodon, in Apple Developer Forums, in podcast episode notes, in blog posts. If you’ve filed Feedback, tell us the number. (And thank you to those who have!)
Good morning, the empty bookshelves in Florida schools keep my head busy, since I'm a teacher with a library in my classroom in Berlin myself. That's a history lesson in front of our very eyes and exactly how fascism started in Germany. Books were banned and then burnt and everyone said, well, I can't do anything, I don't want to loose my job, I don't like it, but... Many little steps were made by many little people who didn't stand up against a new little rule. You know how this ends.

Here are more details about the program if you're interested in applying: https://developer.apple.com/entrepreneur-camp/
We're hiring a (PAID.) summer intern to work on @glitchdotcom at Fastly. Just published my first Swift article of 2023! 🎉
This one is about how the content offset (or scroll position) of a SwiftUI ScrollView can be observed without requiring any UIKit bridging. Very useful when implementing things like collapsable headers, or when performing other kinds of scroll position-dependent operations 👍

Everyone talks about “rockstar developers.” And sure you might need some of those but not many.
Usually, you’re looking for the software equivalent of the session or studio musician. The folks who can turn out amazing stuff in varying styles, but can do it all the time, on demand, consistently. They’re not going to have design philosophies, or manifestos, or lofty-sounding stuff in their bios.
They’re going to have code, and a long list of folks who say “this engineer, you want them. Really.”
Never forget, the Dutch invest €595 million annually on urban biking, resulting in €19 BILLION saved in public health care costs alone. That’s how smart govts do the math on investing in better mobility.
Let’s be clear — it wastes public money to NOT do it.
