Growing up, I had three sisters. One of them was a quiet child, often angry or sullen and sometimes cruel.

One day that person went away.

And then I had a brother.

He was cheerful and warm, finally comfortable in a body he'd wanted his entire life.

Conservatives want to eradicate my brother. I'm here to say that's not going to happen.

Lawmakers seem to think it’s a lot worse for trans people to feel good about themselves than for kids to die from gun violence. That to me shows they don’t actually care about *any* of their constituents.

In today's Design Diary I talk about my philosophy for building Accessibility into my apps. “Try, then Listen". It is sometimes difficult to know how best to build accommodations into our apps, so we try what we think best, then listen when users react...repeating as needed to get the best result.

Specifically I discuss how my mental model for why users would have their Dynamic Type size set to large was incomplete and thus I was overshooting in my reaction to it.

Cyclists are now the single largest mode of travel during peak times in London, according to a new report.

They represent 40% of traffic during peak hours and 27% of traffic throughout the day.

Since 1999, the number of motorists has dropped 64% and the number of cyclists has increased 386%.

My almost 13 year old daughter had a good idea. We’ve been talking about doing a podcast together - mostly for us to have.

Her idea was reviewing books that are being taken out of school libraries - discussing the content, reviewing the actual literature but also the reasons it was banned and our thoughts there as well.

This is something I think that we will do, soon.

The Mormon Church is being fined 5 million because it hid a 32 billion dollar investment fund. This was not accidental. The SEC proved that both the investment firm and church went to great lengths to knowingly hide these assets. For the folks playing along at home, that’s a fine of 0.016% on the investment. Imagine lying on your taxes and you hid an extra $100K offshore and the IRS said “No sweat, pay us $15.63.” If there are no other repercussions, that’s not a fine, that’s encouragement.
