What one expects and what they witness are two independent things. Reality outside of singular perception exists regardless if eyes are open or closed.
Therefor, no-one could have expected you.

It might be that philosophically, your answer is not the same entity as your inner self, but the interaction has, as far as i can know something outside myself, led to joy in my inner self.
