@skribe @ajsadauskas @hamishb @fixatedpersonsunit hello, I've been working on this for a while, so here's an opinion:

Meta have invested millions in their apps, so hard for a FOSS app to match this. Fortunately the fediverse is much more than one app. There's joinmobilizon.org for events, joinpeertube.org/ and loops.video/ for videos, but also much more, see e.g. joinfediverse.wiki/Fediverse_p.

The problem is that federation across different platforms is sketchy. I've been experimenting with lemmy as groups for masto and it works (much better than a.gup.pe for example), but there is a steep learning curve. Just an example, in different interfaces a community (that's how they are called in lemmy) is could be referred as @name@domain or !name@domain, https://domain/c/name, https//domain/@name and this is only between masto and lemmy. One needs to learn that these are the same. And other platforms use different conventions.

So there's lots of work to be done still.

We need to engage with people that have beliefs, different from ours, even if these appear naive to us. The exchange would certainly have benefits for both sides.

@litteracarolina an assertive question to explore further context: do I understand correctly that you're working on deriving writing gestures (mostly) from the scriptures? Sounds intriguing, but if my understanding is correct, the computing subfield might be somewhat different. E.g. computer animation, reverse kinematics? Not sure

Are any computer scientists here on Mastodon working in Visual Computing, or Computer Vision? I'm looking for a collaborator to work on the visualisation of medieval handwriting as movement. Would be grateful for re-posts!

I want to re-set my taste a bit and watch some beautiful movies that weren’t made in America. (A few years ago I did a Subtitle February and I liked that a lot.)

I watched Drive My Car (Japan, 2021) yesterday, and Decision To Leave (South Korea, 2022) today. What else should I watch? Thanks in advance!

@tomastom @mapto@masto.bg благодаря за предложението. Предвид,че имаме избор, търся сървъри, където приемат акаунти на RSS ботове. В момента виждам два аргумента да се съмнявам, че vivaldi.net е такъв сървър:
1. Описват поставете на @mediapool като "backlinking" (T&C->What you agree not ti do: "Post content that is clipped or incomplete with the sole purpose of linking to the full article on another website. We consider this to be backlinking.").

indie game and art store itch.io is down, and according to their bluesky account, it’s because *Funko Pops* filed a nonsense claim against their domain bsky.app/profile/itch.io/post/

Could anyone explain to me how are places not reachable on foot or public transport livable at all? Does it mean that you don't get out of your house without the car? I mean, other than having no contact with nature and society, there is also an inherent cost to this. What happens if you break a leg or loose sight so you can no longer drive?

I've been coming back to this and find it ever more difficult to trace it back, so now I repost.

Wild boars in Bavaria have dug out radiation we have forgotten about

"The team set out to analyze cesium levels using 48 samples of wild boar meat collected by hunters during 2019–2021, from 11 regions of Bavaria."

"Radioactive cesium levels in 88 percent of the meat samples tested were higher than Germany's legal threshold."

"All samples exhibit signatures of mixing," write the researchers. "Nuclear weapons fallout and [Chernobyl] have mixed in the Bavarian soil, the release maxima of which were about 20−30 years apart," the team writes."

@LupinoArts @f_moncomble I guess one possible attempt is to anonymise data, for corpus analysis you don't even need to relate different posts. For discourse analysis you could pseudonymise.
