Duolingo's "make as many mistakes as you need" is probably the worst statement in the history of education. Not that making (and supposedly correcting) mistakes is not good for learning. The problem is that they make you pay for this feature of an app that doesn't have much learning success to brag about.

An introduction to the project BogoSlov (Biblical OriGins in slavOnic texts - Systems for Language-modelled Observation and Verification) has been published in the proceedings of the #IRCDL25 (Information and Research science Connecting to Digital and Library science) conference.
In it we describe what approaches towards quotation and allusion identification are we taking. In particular, we work on identifying references to the #Bible in #OldChurchSlavonic texts.
The paper is titled "Quotes at the Fingertips" and is freely downloadable from here:

This publication comes exactly in the days when we held a project meeting in Heidelberg, experimenting with different approaches and shaping our way ahead. It is only out third month into the project and we already have some interesting findings to share.
"Aix Marseille University in France has said that 40 U.S. scientists have “answered the call” it put out earlier this month offering safe harbor to fleeing Americans. Scientists in the U.S. under the Trump regime are facing a sudden loss of funding and stricter regulations on speech and areas of research. According to Aix Marseille University President Eric Berton, some of them will find a home in France."

@breadwizard @mhoye I personally find this way too worrying. I don't believe there are bullshit jobs, there are people ready to do bullshit work for a disproportionate amount of money. Because salaries at Google and Big Tech are not at market rates in any country.
@ZILtoid1991 @dgerard can't be bothered to watch, but how is learning to code different from democratizing programming?

I know this is not the topic of this article, but could someone explain to me whether these are the jobs David Graeber called #bullshitJobs . Because to me it seems as just another case of someone ignorant talking of things they don't understand.
“What they tell me is it’s just cutting out the waste, the excess spending — that your job’s not that important. I’m not saying it’s the most important job in the world but it’s my job. It’s important to me.”

@GhostOnTheHalfShell @nazgul "He likes this notion of helping humanity," Isaacson told CNN’s Christiane Amanpour in 2023. "In fact, he has more empathy for humanity in general than he often has for the 20 people around him."
If he doesn't actually care for the 20 people around him, his concept of humanity is unmoored from reality.
@ThePolishDispatch @nazgul Musk actually has taken advantage of another kind of exploit. Trust. Every year at his fancy company announcements he gets on stage and promises something; it never comes, and then he just does it again next year. The insane thing to me is that it's one thing to do this with individuals he does it to companies too. Pepsi still doesn't have all the Tesla Semis they were promised. https://www.reuters.com/business/autos-transportation/tesla-semi-trucks-short-supply-pepsico-its-rivals-use-competing-ev-big-rigs-2024-04-19/
