Everyone: France and Italy are awfully behind on lifesaving ammunition deliveries to #Ukraine.

@Yehuda @cavyherd @xyhhx clearly one big factor is the content-generating community which is missing here and takes time to build. Putting this and the huge cost of hosting a video platform aside, it would be helpful to consider how #tiktok differs from #instagram in terms of affordances. I'm on neither, but believe today both support vertical video stories. The newly released #pixelfed mobile app should (I don't use that either) be very instrumental in making the flow of creating and sharing video stories more accessible.
Generative AI seems to be a goldmine for lawyers practicing in privacy. While in the US the corresponding laws might be more tolerant to improvisations, in the EU this is much more clearcut and it's only a matter of finding the examples that demonstrate the data abuses of the models

imho, this image - the MAU curve of lemmy is the big news on the #fediverse. While also #mastodon and other platforms experienced peaks last summer, #lemmy is the only one that is consistently on the rise in 2024. Arguably, this is thanks to particular #affordances, like the fact that older posts of wider appreciation do not get overwhelmed in feeds.

A few months ago I made a network map showing the high speed rail connections in #France. Unfortunately, the official #SNCF #TGV map only shows the stops and whether there is a connection or not. However, I wanted to better understand which cities and regions are directly connected.
Voilà the 2024 update of my 🇫🇷 high speed rail map! Feel free to explore and boost!

Israeli police block Jewish activists from delivering aid to Gaza (Middle East Monitor, 2024-03-08)
------
"Israeli police blocked a convoy of humanitarian aid organised by Jewish activists from entering Gaza at the Kerem Shalom crossing."
"Members of Standing Together, a Jewish-Arab movement for peace, equality and social justice in Israel, said they will not leave the border before delivering aid to Gaza."
@Geri sanctions are only as effective as you make them.
Kamil Galeev has been very good at documenting this.
Unfortunately, he's on ex-twitter and substack only. Here's what I think is an acceptable way of reading him

I recommend him as a way to understand Ruskiy Mir. Goes without saying that he's to be read critically. Even though he's very informed historically and a good narrator, his way of thinking has its own Russian biases.
A reminder that academic publishing poses barriers to knowledge that work in advantage of the rich academic institutions. I didn't think such a reminder it's necessary, but it turns out it is.

"AI-generated content is a perversion of creation."
It's a very strong claim that @auschwitzmuseum is making here, yet his arguments resonate with me.
A worthwhile long-form read.

In case living in the East of #Milan, people might be interested in signing this #petition. For non speakers of Italian, this is about a pedestrian underpass between Città Studi and Lambrate.

Every news story about Biden "failure" on immigration should emphasize that a) the Democrats caved into essentially all of the Republicans' demands; b) the Republicans then torpedoed the legislation; and c) the Republicans explicitly acknowledged that their reason for killing it was to avoid giving Biden anything he could use in his re-election campaign.
The fact that very, very few Americans know this is just one more atrocious -- but typical -- failure of journalism.
It really is hard to overstate how sleazy and inexcusable it is to churn out a constant stream of non-news stories (vaguely disguised op-eds, really) about Biden being too old to lead, based on nebulous feelings and speech foibles that aren’t new.
His age isn’t going to change and barring death or calamity, neither is the reality that he’s going to be the nominee up against a rapist fascist who promises to burn everything down. Pretending this is a real choice is journalistic malpractice.
I don't often promote stuff here but I just got an 18 book ebook collection from @pluralistic for a steal. Just about finished Walkaway & it's got me hooked. Anyway it's all DRM free & gives a donation to the @eff as well.
