How much time do you need to complete the ethics form for a study in your institute/uni? Asking because I recently changed university, and there seem to be drastic differences.

This is about the time you spend on it as a researcher, not how long it takes until you get a response.

Science is a collective endeavor advanced through adversarial processes like peer review. So I am grateful to Kenneth & the *45 people* who constitute the advisory board, editors, and staff. This work is rarely acknowledged and almost never funded explicitly, yet it's collectively advancing the state of the art.

If I receive tenure after I submit my materials in the fall of 2025, I will have thousands of scholars to thank — and I look forward to passing the favor on to the next generation.

Fear, cynicism, nihilism, and apathy... is what modern autocrats sell

"Fear, cynicism, nihilism, and apathy, coupled with disgust and disdain for democracy: This is what modern autocrats sell to their citizens and to foreigners, all with the aim of destroying what they call “American hegemony.”"

UK surgeon who described Gaza ‘massacre’ denied entry to France. Ghassan Abu-Sitta, who was due to speak in French senate, is told Germany has enforced Schengen-wide entry ban.

During the months of October and November 2023 at the beginning of Israel’s war on Gaza [...] he described witnessing a “massacre unfold” in Gaza and the use of white phosphorus munitions, which Israel has denied. He has also provided evidence to Scotland Yard.

This is unprecedented. Brown University strikes a deal with its students to end their peaceful protest & encampment, in exchange for a formal divestment vote from Israeli interests. And no student will be punished for protesting. This is democracy at work.

Lemmy is the coolest thing on the fediverse. For me that's despite all the memes and the people that are there just to chat. I'm not alone in my thoughts - whereas the rest of the fediverse is shrinking, lemmy is growing. And it will stay this way at least until mastodon grows enough to become the community of choice of at least a 100 times more people. Anyway, the thing about Lemmy that really annoys me is that I have to create a new account just to create a community at the instance where it fits better.

An investigation found 36 Facebook groups posing as separate grassroots movements opposing the expansion of London's ultra-low emission zone schemes to reduce air pollution. They were set up by the Conservatives as part of a coordinated political campaign.
