So can someone explain this reasoning to me? I don't exactly follow it.

For the record, I can't find a list of sandboxed/suspended instances for cybre.space anywhere.

@mathlover No, you won't find it.

Opal has this info about it :

>> cybre.space instance blocklist restricted to logged-in users

on this page, recommended reading : wowana.me/fediverse.xht

@design_RG Thanks! Seems to be one of those toxic places you mentioned earlier.

@design_RG Indeed, it seems a lot more toxic than some of the other places on the list, given that mastodon.social seems nicer to qoto.com and almost no one else hides their block list.
I suspect that cybre.space will be adding the other server I am on to their list, as they seem to have just figured out it doesn't block "fascist" servers either, as the user put it later in the thread.

@design_RG Anyway, I do really like it here compared to Twitter, and I love the way this place is laid out!

@mathlover It's definitely much better than Twitter, the fediverse, and much more interesting too - so much to discover.

I have lots of accounts and am active in various places, easy with a good client like Pinafore, which I use and recommend.

@design_RG I will seriously consider Pinafore. Tabs in Firefox is an interim solution before I replace the dying hard drive on this laptop in a few days, but an inadequate one.

(Yes, all my data is backed up elsewhere. Yes, I have another device to work on if this one dies.)

@mathlover Hope all remains well until you can replace it.

Pinafore runs in a web browser, and can be used even in Mobiles that way too. It's light, and switching instances is a snap -- ONE click action.

And I do use more than one tab with pinafore, keeping 3 or 4 open with different instances in each is possible.

It also displays MarkDown formatted content properly when the instance supports it, as well as accepting new posts formated in MD. All my blog announcements and most of my posting is done with MarkDown, either at GlitchSocial or Pleroma instances nowadays.

@mathlover mastodon.social is itself blocke by some people, believe it or not -- who say the instance is not moderated adequately.

There's pettiness, animosity, small mindedness and strutting for power involved in all this.

Some people are admins of very small instances, but frequently out and posting their FediBlock recommendations -- which others with less familiarity with the fediverse follow as true gospel.

Gab had disappeared from federated space about 10 days ago -- having switched off ActivityPub protocol all together and on course to build their own, alternative federation protocol, from scratch.

We had some people asking if that meant the end of some of the blocking this instance suffers from -- as I mentioned some are significant, and I have experienced personal harm due to blocked content or denied services due to this being the source.

Not sure what Gab's path is now, regarding protocols, it would be ideal if they stayed out all together.

That by itself will NOT clear a lot of problems this instance has -- as some are rooted on the contents of the Terms of Service here, or personal problems with the administrator.

I would advise keeping all these things in mind -- and plot your own course, find the best places to suit you or your various interests, projects, etc.

Myself, I have been tacking away.

There's a lot of dorks, and animosity. And blocking going on.

Content posted here will not reach a number of instances. Some are irrelevant, others are less so.

Reason why I have changed my publishing account location elsewhere.

This will NOT be cleared anytime soon. Last one I tried (and I am good at diplomacy) costed my my account at that server.
