Following Elsevier's decision to raise the article processing charge for NeuroImage to $3,450, all editors (inc. chief editors) from NeuroImage and NeuroImage:Reports have resigned, effective immediately.

I am joining this action and have also resigned.

Finally, I find it utterly mind-boggling that ready-made “GDPR-compliant/No EU data included” training data sets don’t seem to be a thing in Machine Learning. It’s such an obvious legal-compliance issue, with such a clear solution that it makes the entire field look _incredibly_ irresponsible.

I remember reading and doing exercises about ***determinants*** in high school.

The name was scary, and sadly not much context was given at the time. 😞

For a long time, I thought a *determinant* was just a value I had to blindly compute using a formula.

Here's what I would like know about *determinants* when I first started... 🧵

Remember when the mantra was "write boring code"? Can we do that again? Seeing way too many efforts to bring unnecessary complexity to engineering.

Web browsers have had back buttons since the beginning of time. But we've spent like 15 years breaking and fixing and rebreaking their behavior to the point that it is now notable heck even delightful when they do anything remotely resembling their purpose.

I wrote this blog post about my foray into using the 🌳 language and then completely forgot to share it! It was an interesting experience, with the main conclusion that I won't continue using Elm but that I want to keep investigating functional programming patterns and design.

Thoughts welcome 😁

@eScienceCenter @egpbos Interesting blog post! My initial reaction is that GHCR still suffers from the same deficiencies as DockerHub: you are relying on the good will of a company to continue to make these services free, and the underlying code for this infrastructure is proprietary. Zenodo is an interesting suggested alternative, but as you point out has the manual download step which makes it quite inconvenient. Sounds like a docker interface to Zenodo could be something useful 🤔

Are you using Docker Hub to store your containerized #Software? Recent attempts to change it’s pricing model have made it less attractive as a long-term repository.

@rkdarst @us_rse @de_rse @nordic_rse Great question and I have been wondering the same thing. Need to raise with SocRSE (UK) to get a mastodon account since they have a lot of followers in the community and that move in itself might bring a lot of people over here.

I have seen Guppe groups used for this sort of thing a.gup.pe I just created one called @researchsoftware Any toot you do that mentions that name will go out to everyone who follows that account. Kind of like an email distribution list.

There is also fedi.directory for finding lists of people to follow. We could inquire about getting an Research Software Engineering topic created on there.
