From the preface by Tomaso Montanari, on the issue of administrative and centralised of : "The arguments you are about to read are partly theoretical and partly technical, and they apply to every discipline. But what is at stake is political, in the highest sense of the word: and why is well summed up by the quotation embedded in the title of Maria Chiara Pievatolo's contribution: 'Caesar supra grammaticos'. In other words, it is about the control (however direct or facilitated by internal reservations within the scientific community) that the government exercises over research: a control that fundamentally denies the of research, which should be inviolable as a guarantee for everyone". “Some searches still just give you a normal list of links, but when the results are right there at the top, there is often no point in ever leaving Google.
That could be disastrous for the rest of the internet. Google, after all, dominates the global search market, sending billions of visits to websites across the web every day.”

Stop evaluating academics based on indicators. Start rewarding the contributions of faculty and researchers in all areas of university activities.
Stop constructing university strategies based on university rankings. Do not use ranking tiers in analytical reports for management decision making; instead, focus on the actual contributions made by a university (scientific, educational, and societal).
Stop evaluating universities based on ranking indicators. Every university has a unique mission, and only fulfillment of this mission really matters.
Stop using ranking information in national strategies and other kinds of ambitions. Only universities’ contributions to national and global goals should be considered.
Stop paying money for consulting services to ranking compliers. This is a pure conflict of interests. Source: leidenmadtrics.nl/articles/the

"It’s exciting to join in the growth and success of truly social media – media that doesn’t trap us in commercially-owned spaces that are extractive and manipulative. It feels worth investing in a community for the longterm when you know they can follow you if you move to a different neighborhood."

Welcome to hell!

The images from #Lahaina town (#Hawaii) after being devastated by wildfires that were fanned into the town by Hurricane Dora are just the beginning of what will be our day-to-day reality in the near future if no radical cuts in emissions are implemented.

The Council of the EU suggested to hit both birds with the same stone:

consilium.europa.eu/en/press/p

A scholarly infrastructure would be able to provide a market for such tools, irrespective of their business model:

royalsocietypublishing.org/doi

A tiny sliver of what we are currently wasting on the ex-publishers would've been enough to save protocols.io

YES! After a tender!

I dare you to name just one Big Deal that wasn't awarded in a secret negotiation, but in a competitive tender!

This is precisely why we in our article are requiring all publications services to be tendered and not negotiated. In brief:
