@medigoth

If someone promotes the initiation of violence, I’ll block them whether that violence is directed at me or not. (Even if the target of their violence is a bad guy)

@Pat That too. It’s just a bizarre idea that a threat (or even just an insult) needs to be aimed directly at you for the blocking to be justified.

@medigoth

I put my general blocking criteria on my profile.

It’s pretty much what you just described in you toot. I also block child porn.

And maybe graphic gore that’s not CW’ed.

Sometimes I’ll block someone if they only post a lot of stuff in a foreign language that I’ll never read that it just fills up my feed.

Also, I’ll block someone if they are unresponsive. If I respond their toots and they never answer back, I’ll mute them so I don’t waste time again talking to a vacuous poster.

Other than that I try to resist blocking people.

@Pat I try to resist too … but not nearly as hard as I used to. 😀

@medigoth

There’s another aspect of this…

Some people are neuro-divergent and may have difficulty communicating or whatever, so I try to give the benefit of the doubt. But that depends on my mood at the time. 🙂

@Pat Absolutely, and I do try to be tolerant. But for my own mental health, that tolerance is a lot more limited than it used to be.
