Hi Mastodon! We're the Project On Government Oversight, and we're excited to be here.

Follow us to get all the latest updates from our team of experts who are working hard to hold power to account.

@freemo @mssunshine and as much as I normally rail against the establishment and the Republican Party makes sound like an institutionalist when I have no respect for all three branches of the government, we can’t have the Republican Party burn down the entire house. Especially the electoral system where we collectively decide who will wield powers. So although I despise almost all Democrats as well, I cannot in good conscience vote for Republicans

I am thoroughly enjoying reading posts that are not pre-packaged by an algorithm. In fact I love it. I have found more interesting people over the last few days than the last months in the other place - where essentially you pile up followers but only ever interact with the same 40-50. This place feels, just, better!

As everyone posts interesting stuff, here is a good read from colleagues in Canberra about the latest "major questions doctrine" by the US Supreme Court. Interesting to #law peeps, but more broadly #regulation #socialjustice and #politics

Can't fight misinformation when you bought Twitter to spread misinformation.

Democracy Defender:

The election is still within the “margin of effort.”
The actions YOU take today and tomorrow could win or lose the election.
Don’t just vote. Help get other Dems to the polls.

Some thoughts on the "Lexodus" from Twitter to Mastodon

And why Mastodon is inherently more attractive to any liberal and how it is geared for constructive exchanges

What's being done about this ongoing Russian interference?? They're so cavalier about their clandestine activities because there are a lack of true consequences or solutions to impede them.

Attention New York State Voters!!!!!!

The polls are too damn close! But the election is not going to be decided by polls. It'll be decided by us .... the voters! That is, if we get out and vote for Democrats up and down the ballot. You can vote early through Sunday or you can vote on Tuesday, November 8.

So please get out there and vote! Bring your loved ones. Share this message with your friends. Knock on your neighbors' doors. Remind people at the supermarket, the playground, the gym, or wherever else you head over the next few days to vote for Democrats.

Hi everyone! Please exercise patience as we weather the wonderful storm of people joining from Twitter.

The next few days might be a bit rocky. We've had thousands of people sign up the past few days.

You may experience slowdowns, delayed emails, delayed notifications, and some lag on your timelines. This will improve in time.

If Trump took stolen top secret documents to Mar-a-Lago, there's a good chance he took them to Bedminster and Trump Tower, too

“I think that is a very uniquely American idea of creating this marketplace of ideas where you can say anything you want completely without limits. It is very foreign to the German mindset where we, in our Constitution, our number one priority is maintaining human dignity. And so, hate speech is not part of the German concept of free speech, for example. So I think that when Elon Musk says that everything’s gonna be allowed, or whatever, I generally disagree with that.” – @Gargron

HEADS-UP for in-person voters! If you’re voting in-person today is a good day to review the questions, measures & amends that may be on your ballot. When voters are reading lengthy ballot measures for the first time in the voting booth, it contributes to long lines. State ballot measures cover things like legalizing weed, campaign finance, term limits, policing.
