What about DAO's? A MUD buddy who's big in DeFi, pointed out "So it's a new way for nerds to organize online. SO WHAT?" lol I did not have a ready reply.

I wonder if part of that skepticism is the notion that open-source software development has functioned "well enough" all these years, with much looser governance and lack of profit-motive.

DAOs serve a purpose, and i am currently in the middle of deploying one for a cryptocurrency related project. But id caution as using them as thr default way to operate any project. For starters thry can get expensive for a project with no income, and second thry arent likely to offer much benefit unless they are serving as a democratic control point to sone other smart contract. The only real benefit of using it as a generic organization would be the immutability and transparency of a blockchain record, which really isnt worth the costs in itself for small projects.

Makes sense..I've been trying to gauge when their utility outweighs the hassle of execution and governance. My industry background is M&E and have been noodling around concepts for original IP development. I'm inclined to believe that DAOs are suited for a "web3-native studio" than parts of the production chain, i.e., collaborative screenwriting should work just fine as a creative co-op.
