Saludos.
@nachocarreras
Saludos.
Hi QOTO moderator here. I dont speak your language so forgive me but I cant read the full thread, but I wanted to chime in.
Depending on the message you are trying to send here I find it problematic at best, and potentially racist at worse, and I'm trying to understand which it is.
To be clear if the intended message is "Israel is violent" then I have no problem with that message. If the message is supposed to be "Jews are violent" then that approaches racism, and I'd be quite concerned.
The reason I say this is problematic regardless is because it is hard to infer the intent. Sending an unintentionally racist message can gbe problematic in its own right.
Lets start by clarifying, what was your **intended** message? Also given the potentially racist interpritation is this a meme your willing to take down?
Good morning,
From what I see @Raccoon has tried to fool you too.
1 asked me to remove the ironic cartoon from a Spanish digital newspaper arguing that it was offensive to Jews on hanukkah.
2 I replied that, as he could see, it was an anti-Zionist cartoon, not anti-Jewish.
3 He responded by insisting that it was anti-Jewish. Which as I have already explained is not true, as you will have seen the cartoon is anti-Zionist. At this time when the Zionists have murdered almost 16,000 people including almost 6,500 children of the Palestinian Semitic people it seems to me that being pro Zionist like @Raccoon makes him a racist so I have blocked him, he has come to you.
4 I have no problem removing anything posted but if the person asking for it is a Palestinian anti-Semitic racist I have my doubts as I will probably be giving in to racism, which I don't want to do.
Sorry for my English, it's pretty bad and I have to use a translator. I hope I am understood correctly.
I look forward to your reply.
Best regards.

Saludos cordiales.
> From what I see @Raccoon has tried to fool you too.
No one fooled me. He simply pointed out the post and asked me to take a look. The rest was my own conclusions.
As I said I do think your intent was to send an anti-zionist message. That is why i am not taking any moderator action, as there is nothing wrong with that.
But it is very easy for someone seeing that meme to see it as anti-jew. There is nothing in the meme, and no text for context, that would tell anyone it is anti-zionist, when standing on its own there is no rteason any reasonable person would draw that conclusion, even if that is your intent.
> 1 asked me to remove the ironic cartoon from a Spanish digital newspaper arguing that it was offensive to Jews on hanukkah.
You mean he asked you to remove it from a newpaper in addition to its presence here on QOTO? This statement is confusing, we are talking about the post here, what does a newspaper have to do with it?
> 2 I replied that, as he could see, it was an anti-Zionist cartoon, not anti-Jewish.
While I do beleive that was your intent (and why this isnt a bigger issue) how exactly is it "he could see it was an anti-zionist cartoon". I only have the context here on mastodon, and there doesnt seem to be anything indicating that. I feel like im missing something here?
> 3 He responded by insisting that it was anti-Jewish. Which as I have already explained is not true, as you will have seen the cartoon is anti-Zionist. Ok you claim its clearly anti-zionist... but how, what about the post makes that obvious, I dont see it?
> it seems to me that being pro Zionist like @Raccoon makes him a racist so I have blocked him, he has come to you.
Whether he is racist or not has little to do with what we are discussing. It has little to do with the post and if it is appropriate.
> 4 I have no problem removing anything posted but if the person asking for it is a Palestinian anti-Semitic racist I have my doubts as I will probably be giving in to racism, which I don't want to do.
Well I am someone who has been very vocally anti-zionist and I find this post misleading and easily confused as anti-jew and not anti-zionist. Because of its easy confusion with hate speech I would like to ask, kindly, that you either remove it, or if you insist on posting it you add textual context to make it clear it is an anti-zionist post and not intending to suggest jews as a people are violent.
> Sorry for my English, it's pretty bad and I have to use a translator. I hope I am understood correctly.
No worries at all, happy to work through it.
> I look forward to your reply.
> Best regards.
Thank you for engaging politely.
@freemo @nachocarreras
I would like to note that I have also posted content condemning the Israeli Government's violence, and didn't do anything to block him or respond to the other 2 posts in the report against him, seeing as they were simply death-tolls of the genocide in Gaza. I'm pretty sure I told him that the Judaism link was the only issue I had, and it is unreasonable for him to conflate that with me somehow being a Zionista.
I might have accepted the addition of a comment like "Zionism hides behind Judaism, turning religion into violence." but he decided I was trying to "fool" him by stating that Jews would find it hurtful to see a symbol of their culture turned into a symbol of violence like this.
Once again, the anti-Zionist message is fine, it's the conflation of Judaism with genocide that is a problem, and I'm starting to question how he doesn't understand that by now.
(Also, for future reference, I am female, and use she/her pronouns)
You have absolutely no need to defend yourself. You can be on either side of the conflict and as long as you arent racist or something stupid you have every right to have those opinions whether I agree or not.
You also have every right to block whoever you want.
My point was only that his accusations on you are irrelevant and really dont matter to me in the least because I am his admin, not yours.
That said, you did nothing wrong even if i was in a place to judge you.
@nachocarreras
Hey, just wanted to chime in here, as a moderator on another server, because we got a report on this. While I don't think this meets the level of any action I can take, I do find it inappropriate that you've conflated Hanukkah with violence.
I understand the frustration with current events, but we need to not conflate the actions of conservatives in the Israeli government with Judaism as a whole, and that's what the menorah symbolizes. For the vast majority of people who celebrate Hanukkah, you've taken a symbol of their religion / culture and connected it to the violent actions of politicians that they may even be in opposition to.
I feel like that's very ethnically insensitive, and I'm going to even say it's legitimately offensive.
Like I said, I don't have anything I can do about it, but I seriously hope you consider taking this down and not posting things like this in the future.
