covid

I strongly dislike posting about politics other than software related stuff here but this is starting to really freak me out.

I'm not getting vaccinated. I had good arguments against it, there's the lack of long term data, the fact that it's orders of magnitude more dangerous than other vaccines for a disease that quite frankly is not very deadly for people my age. There's the social issues surrounding it.

But now people are talking about forcing it on each other. For that reason alone I'll refuse it.

I'll die on this hill, don't push me.

covid

@swiley how deadly it is for people your age is irrelevant, the point of the vaccine is to eradicate the virus, so either most people take it or it's pointless. It's a question of whether you want to take your chances with the virus or the vaccine, which according to you, is a chance of some unknown long term side effects on you versus the chance of your neighbor or relative, who's old, a smoker or has immune system problems or something else along those lines, dying in the short term, keeping in mind that most people don't give a flying fuck about long term side effects of anything, unless of course it's some hot politically charged news.

covid

@namark If the vaccine worked weather I took it or not would be irrelevant.
Even if you were right (you're not) it's *absolutely* unacceptable to force drugs on people.

covid

@swiley I don't care for your political rhetoric, but thank you for enlighening me that vaccines are magic potions of immunity, that do not require wide spread use, and that immunity is just a black and white, yes or no question, impervious to circumstance or time.

covid

@namark The immunity provided by the vaccines is very weak, you still carry the virus, experience symptoms, and infect others.

Also, you've written nothing but political rhetoric and you don't have a right to not get sick when you go outside, that's not how the world works.

covid

@swiley then your argument should be that the vaccine is ineffective... and that's your only one it seems... none a single trace of it in OP... also stop imagining that I'm your political opponent and read what I wrote please

covid

@namark No. My argument is that you have no right to force people to take drugs. Their effectiveness is irrelevant.

covid

@swiley I'm glad we established that everything you said so far other then that short politically message is irrelevant, that's what I was getting at

covid

@namark This whole thread is political. I pointed that out in OP.

covid

@swiley ah right, when talking about politics it's mandatory to write paragraph of BS, I forgot, sorry.

covid

@namark I'm not sure what you're trying to say, but it sounds like you're just mad because I'm right.

covid

@swiley
> writes ton of text
> admits that all but tiny portion of it is irrelevant
> doesn't get it

covid

@namark There were too discussions here:
1) The morality of forcing people to take an dangerous and experimental drug (the main discussion)
2) An irrelevant side discussion about the efficacy of the drug. I have said, since the first post, that this is irrelevant.

covid

@swiley my point is that what appears to be the second paragraph of the OP is total BS. Nothing more nothing less.

covid

@namark It's not, otherwise Israel would be covid free, we wouldn't have the variants, the deaths from the vaccine wouldn't be orders of magnitude so far than every other vaccine combined, and it wouldn't matter if some people elected not to take the vaccine. It's not rhetoric, it's supported by facts. Your initial response ignored the third paragraph which was the point of the post and was almost entirely rhetorical.

covid

@swiley OP
> vaccine might have long term side effects
> vaccination in general doesn't require wide spread use

this reply:
> vaccine (you know the one) doesn't work
> vaccine is more deadly than all other vaccines combined
> vaccination in general doesn't require wide spread use

Thank you for clarifying how horrible the specific vaccine is. I wonder what were you thinking in the OP omitting such important information in favor of "long term effects"? Are you a an evil tyrannical global government agent?

I regret to inform you however, that vaccination in general still requires wide spread use to be effective. If I understood correctly your religion does not allow you to read this sentence, but hopefully I can trick you into doing it this time.

covid

@namark I kept the paragraph in the OP on the nature of the vaccine short because that was not what OP was about.
It was about forcing the vaccine on people.

covid

@swiley yes and one would think you would prioritize the more pressing and relevant matters, as you had to be terse. But not to worry, one forgets, happens to all of us.

covid

@namark I put it near the end where people would read it.

Follow

covid

@swiley of course, I also read backwards

covid

@namark idk. I'm used to it, maybe it's less common than I thought among adults.
