@davep I know what you mean. I was born in 1970 so I grew up with it around me everywhere.
It's also very funny how everyone is drinking a scotch in the office. And yes, I remember people smoking in some elevators. They used to actually have ashtrays. 🤣
@nullifidian @davep Yeah I never actually heard them (and I've got a collection of old BBC Radio shows). I'll definitely check it out. Thanks for reminding me.
I believe at archive.org or something they have the entire old BBC collection including LOTR, HHGTTG and a few other classic ones.
@natharari @davep The old (BBC?) radio plays are worth a listen, too for another take on the books. They should be available somewhere out there (*waves hands vaguely towards the interwebs*).
@natharari I may have to do the books because I’m liking the themes and ideas in the show.
@davep Well, the books are great but very, very, 1950s. I mean, to a T. You have guys in "futuristic offices" still smoking cigarettes, talking with 1950s lingo...you can sort of just imagine them patting the secretary on the butt and asking for another scotch. It's very dated. But the concepts are still amazing.
Happy birthday, TESS! 🥳
We’re excited to keep working together with you to further exoplanet science 🪐

@davep The books are classic. The series is good but completely deviates from the books in so many ways. It's still good but...it's not *really* "Foundation" in a sense. Sort of in a peripheral way for the most part.
I finally fixed my blog on Github. It was down for something like three months or more. I just didn't have the time to fix it. I had this stupid git setup with two directories and repos and it just didn't make sense. Of course, when I tried to fix it so that it was only one directory/repo, it messed everything up and I just stopped for a while in frustration.
I finally sat down and rebuilt it from scratch (the repo). Should work now. Glad to have gotten that done.

@timesunion On today's @bulwarkonline podcast, @SykesCharlie and I discussed tragedies like this one.
"We have to decide at what point the violence that results just from everybody having a gun... becomes so great that we need to change the gun laws in this country.” https://bit.ly/3GQGi4Y
#Oklahoma officials caught on tape complaining that they can no longer murder Black people with impunity and this fact means that, "They got more rights than we got.”
ContraPoints has her first new video out in ten months, and I couldn't be happier. It's about "The Witch Trials" which covers the J.K. Rowling story which was done recently in podcast form. Natalie was featured in the podcast.
Tim Miller from @bulwarkonline (The Bulwark) has a fantastic interview with Tennessee House Rep. Gloria Johnson about what happened there in the last few weeks. Also, she's been there for a while. It's not just what's happened in the last few weeks, but what has been happening for a long while.
I remember in the 90s, a lot of movies and shows were showing us "The New South". The non-racist South. The South that had "changed". All of that "nastiness" and "unpleasantness" was in the past, as they would have had us believe. It was "forgotten history" - pay it no heed.
Well, as it turns out, not so much. Not by a long shot.

@LouisIngenthron I've actually been against those as well since years and years. I have many posts online in different venues about it. In fact, I haven't posted on Facebook for a very, very, long time because of it. Same goes for Twitter and other places.
I just think that TikTok is a blatant security threat not just to the USA but to any democracy.
A lot of people don't appear to mind that TikTok is subject to Chinese Communist Party laws concerning the retaining of all of that juicy data they collect on everyone around the world.
Yet another story to remind us about just whom we are talking about:

Do you /really/ want to give your data to them? Seriously?
Let's see: I've lived in 9 US states (Mass, NY, Pennsylvania, Washington DC, Virginia, Maryland, California, Arizona, Vermont) and England, Belgium, France, Israel, and Japan.
I used to be a news photographer in Washington DC during the Clinton years. I've worked for Congressional Quarterly, UPI, Scripps Howard News Service.
Now I live again in Paris.
