Over the last few months, I’ve seen a few articles explaining why Mastodon has failed. I’ve also seen several articles talking about the most recent spike of new Mastodon users.

So is it failing because there are too many users?

@GeorgeMari It has "failed" if the metric of success is having over 100m or 1b users.

1) This is very short term thinking.

2) The network already has plenty of practical utility. Not every social network needs to be Facebook or to contain the entire world.

3) There seems to be a bubble where you're only legitimate, if you're some techbro pitching a platform.
