CSAM, Japanese law

@tokyo_0 @portalresearcher@hachyderm.io @det That is interesting speculation but there is no evidence that this has actually happened.

Note that it is possible for a community which shares such content to find solutions to this hypothetical.

@portalresearcher@hachyderm.io @tokyo_0 @det Noting that Google's algorithms have been known to misclassify computer generated images.

Also, David is known to not actually look at the matches from that other tool, for legal reasons, which could mean a certain number of false positives.

Either way, the numbers are actually very small, especially compared to mainstream social media.

The main argument he has is that sites don't use one very specific tool, but otherwise seem to take action.

@portalresearcher@hachyderm.io @tokyo_0 @det qoto.org/@olives/1107790423956 I wrote some words about this earlier. I might write some more later.

Quite a few posts trickling in. Yeah, down with KOSA.

This is obviously a pretty big invasion of privacy, and I'm wondering what exactly it is that's spurred this.

psychologytoday.com/us/blog/ch A good new article from Dr. Ferguson about math and reading scores in light of covid-19 and how some reactions to it might be a bit exaggerated.

This sounds like something which calls for Dr. Ferguson. Buster of video game moral panics.

pcgamer.com/the-esrb-wants-to- The ESRB wants to scan your face to guess your age to control what video games minors can play and how much of it they can play.

Ugh, is it another video game related moral panic...?

I don't usually cover these ones, however, since it intersects with the First Amendment and the Internet, I'll give a crack at it.

I think that, yeah, it's a clear 1A violation for a sex offender to be forced to go around social media with a mark of shame.

It's compelled speech. This is ipso facto a First Amendment violation.

Even if it's an awful person, I don't really want to be making exceptions here and there, on principle.

Also, this sounds like a good way to attract harassment and to avoid positive socialization. Their families might also be harassed.

Someone who is up to evil could likely find a way around this. This is going to hit someone acting in good faith, rather than a bad actor.

You also have to consider that some sex crimes are more or less heinous than others. Does it make sense to treat a more minor one the same as the worst of the worst?

Also, some of these were committed as *minors*.

@det Do the posts have mangled URLs and other oddities? We reported some like these outside of the fedi.

@det Do they show patterns of automated behavior? o.O

@det I still find it troublesome how you try to conflate fiction with real child porn.

You went onto instances with a vast number of users and scanned around half a million posts to discover a few possible cases of real child porn.

Alright, so a few people are trying to abuse a service. It's still neither proportionate or respectful of free expression to engage in censorship.

It also wouldn't eliminate people trying to abuse a service, any service, or creating their own service, to engage in their abhorrent activities.

It should be noted that there are other instances which go further than that particular one (if I've guessed right) in tackling this, without the censorship.

These ones are also more communicative.

No instance, or it's users, would want this content on there. If you can offer your wisdom into bad actors, that is welcome.

Rather than writing dry hit pieces, they could instead, I dunno, talk to admins to tell them about cases they know of of this?

No one likes a "clever" guy lecturing them from up above.

Ire about the fediverse originates primarily from right wing figures who are really upset about the fact that people are not jumping up and down in excitement in response to Elon acquiring Twitter.

I'm reading a really weak hit piece about the fediverse. What strikes me is just how little actual child porn there actually is. When you consider the scale of both instances and networks, the number is essentially nil.

They really had to snip random things out of context to try to pretend there is a "problem". They still failed.

It's not hard to figure out why Q aligned people are so concerned about what might or might not have happened at the Kinsey.

It's because they're upset about pornography, the acceptance of homosexuality, and other forms of social liberation. Reading some posts of theirs shows that.

And they blame the researchers who work at Kinsey for that.

The 50s weren't exactly a good time for ethics.

Supposedly, the U.S. Government carried out experiments involving STDs and psychological torture they called "mind control experiments" (MKUltra).

There were also inhumane experiments on criminals, MIT feeding people radioactive oats, and more.

At the end of the day though, while there might be something to be learned, whatever happened in the 50s has little bearing on the modern day.

Unless, of course, you're a Q conspiracist who sees everything as some sort of conspiracy.

The argument would generally be that they just wouldn't get these people, if they did go around reporting it, and that there is scientific value to it.

That's not an argument which I'm making here, although it's unsurprising that standards might have been different in the past.
