Even though it looks early days, COSL is better than that "child protection" org which seemed like it would have been better off launching itself as an internet freedom org.

The EFF does a lot of work behind the scenes which you don't see. They keep the Internet functional. You should donate to them.

Alright, let's just split it then. That didn't work so well.

Unfortunately, it's somewhat vague (it doesn't mention which authority was involved), so it's hard to say if it wasn't that weird "age verification" guy (I think the situation with him was sorted in the end?)

While I was investigating something else, I encountered a post from a year ago accusing the German Government of pushing a hosting firm in a puritanical manner.

In Star Trek, it's easier to travel through time than it is to get to the Andromeda galaxy.

In a sci-fi, it is a convenient device for saying "This civilization is really advanced."

If you're not familiar with a Dyson Sphere, it's the maybe unrealistic idea of building a shell around a star to capture the energy emitted by it.

The Dyson Swarm idea tries to make that idea more plausible by having a swarm of satellite like things capturing the energy emitted by a star.

I'm seeing these two ideas popping up in sci-fi novels now.

It's interesting to see sci-fi novels with Dyson Spheres / Swarms.

Hey, it's me. Lol.

I also discovered that people apparently still use old school forums (which I guess is cool as it doesn't involve using, say, Facebook).

Since we're on the subject of what hosts not to use (Hetzner is on the list), I'd advice against using Linode. I've heard horror stories about it, including one involving a competing site making a bogus "copyright claim".

Remember that in Australia, the government denies A LOT of FOIA requests, so I wouldn't read into a denial too much.

Space elevators are a cool sci-fi idea.

If "AI" are people, then I guess deleting a file is the same as murder.

"AI developers working under humans."
"AI" are not people, they don't "work" in any way like humans do -.-

I'm not going to name names here, because frankly, I don't care for Internet drama.

So, uh, I've been looking at a few Bluesky profiles (although, I haven't spent a lot of time on that), and wow, quite a bit of drama.
