@chip_unicorn

Here’s an useful and/or scary description of how to move around somewhat.

docs.joinmastodon.org/user/mov

You might try redirecting (and I will once moved), but of course redirects to vulpine.club might be ineffective because of the banning.

I also learned there are many levels of control short of banning an entire server. Silencing is preferable in fact, if done at all.

So we find ourselves in a world of self-imposed silos for whatever reason. We all get to decide how we communicate and with whom our willing respondents are. Having it done at the platform level seems worrisome. And not knowing that may be the case on chosing a platform/server is even more troublesome.

I will probably tweet about this - LOL

@chip_unicorn

Here is what qoto.org says about itself,

qoto.org/about/more#message-to

On the surface, I don’t find anything objectionable. Still looking to see how easy migration is.

@chip_unicorn

That’s an immense server ban list at vulpine.club. Since it is all silent it sort of flies in the face of what folks are expecting as the promise of open federation.

I chose qoto.org because of the generic science/tech topic and the large number of subscribers. I suppose there’s another I could find that is not currently banned by vulpine, although this may be like chasing rainbows.

Is there a conflict over site policies? There’s no information.

I now get to test the statement that migration to a different server is effortless.

@chip_unicorn

I still don’t see you on vulpine.club. Not certain what that’s about.

@Satrofu @saxarona @friday
A^B => C, ~C |- ~( A ^ B)

easy enough with truth table, just like modus ponens is. (Classical truth value semantics)

@friday @saxarona
I see some formatting when viewing on quoto.org although it is plaintext, crazy spacing, and no nice font handling. I do see the symbols for \wedge and \implies. Of course, there is no deduction by modus ponens if only A is asserted to be true.

@customdesigned This all hinges on the assumption that I would want to run a server in my computing locality. I understand your perspective for that situation. It's not a problem I intend to have.

@Gargron
I tried out the RSS feed of yours, it is great to receive it as an RSS feed like that. My old FeedDemon doesn't know how to display the full "articles" though. I can open them in my "external" browser just fine though. I'm not certain how this will scale up with Mastodon though.

@customdesigned Wow. I am not so disturbed by HTTP[S] and I'm using Mastodon in my browser this minute. Something like a feed reader could work assuming the Mastodon APIs are supportive, whether or not it is literally RSS/Atom. I don't quite know how the endstate you aspire to is going to be consumer and casual-user friendly.

@ScottMStedman I'm thinking this should be thought of as a kind of blogging hybrid. It's not so easy to scan and curate material and replies are different than retweets, edited or not. There is a Mastodon RSS feed I am going to look into. For journalists, you may need to poll on Twitter.

@customdesigned What about RSS/Atom and having something like a feed reader/aggregator for Mastedon. I think this would make for more fluid usage, rapid curation, and identification of new content being followed.

@band Yes, I believe that's an R wrapper/binding of raylib.

@chip_unicorn wondering how to friend/follow you in this balkanized world.

@users Is there any way to estimate attrition? Perhaps an activity distribution would be informative.

@reallyedbrown I've commented elsewhere that this reminds me of RSS aggregators, but not so easy to manage. FeedDemon is my reference point.

@chattwjonathan This reminds me of RSS but without the aggregation and quick review that clients like Feed Demon provided. I would prefer restoration of something like that. I have no idea whether he Mastodon APIs and protocols would support it. (I still have FeedDemon installed, but rarely check it and the accumulation of unread articles is immense. Twitter and the disappearance of blogging tore me away :).

@mtomczak keep in mind that the doctrine of fair use is not a right, it is an affirmative defense. It applies to infringements. And whether an infringement is excused under the doctrine is determined only in court. So people declaring they are making a fair use are essentially admitting infringement. They seem to forget the "throwing themselves on the mercy of the court" part. We've already seen that in a prominent case related to Google versus Oracle.

@reallyedbrown I'm still on Twitter, just arriving here. I don't use Twitter so much as a social place but as a kind of commentary and information stream. I use Twinbox so my Twitter feed arrives as if it is a desktop Outlook email in-box and I can delete, preserve, and respond from there. I don't think that and Mastodon are comparable in that respect. I do find Mastodon interesting.
