@burgoonster he's only interested in as many blue tick subscriptions as he can get and not in people or morality.
@madamscientist yes, someone was murdered by being tied up in the bell chamber while they rang a 7 hour double peal in The Nine Tailors. I think the Midsomer Murder one had some ringers killed over some ancient family grudge.
@madamscientist The Nine Tailors. (this refers to the number of times a bell is rung when someone passes away and was used before modern communication to signify when someone had died and the chiming signalled both their sex and age.)
This is so true!

SEXY CAMPANOLOGY
Sir, Regarding your article “A peal goes out for trainee #bellringers” (Oct 22) can I add my support and suggest readers hie to their nearest active bell tower tomorrow. Two months into my own training I can vouch it is the most extraordinary experience. You make music without being a musician, connect with your heritage, learn arcane bell-language, commune with ringers and get a very respectable upper body workout into the bargain. When you pull just right, and the bell swings just right, it feels out of body, like you’re swinging up with it; it’s gently pulling you and you’re gently pulling it. Well, it’s sexy.

@SandyKendell it's the best thing about qoto.org. you can follow all your favourite instances in a list like you were on them and not miss out. Besides that, qoto.org responds quickly unlike others.
@SandyKendell it's on the Followers menu via a web browser. Clients won't know about this. If you get stuck ask again.
@GeriMcN You're amongst friends here :)
@pensato @bbcmicrobot Yes the US found English too complicated for their capability to understand..... ;-)
@KecskeBak @bbcmicrobot It could be Irish English but they just don't have a "Craic" menu (yet)??
@wblau So we don't have to join them and thereby demonstrate how important we really think they are?? ;-)
@bbcmicrobot Eugen Rochko, the developer of Mastodon, was brought up in Germany so I'm also a little surprised that standard English spelling was favoured over US 'English'. However, perhaps some of the contributors were British/Irish/Canadian/Australian where the spelling of English words was not destroyed in the early 20th century as it was in the USA?
I’m going to start sharing a photo every day. Today’s is from a trip to Dublin in May, and shows the Samuel Beckett bridge by Santiago Calatrava, one of my favourite architects. #travel #dailyphoto #photography #dublin
Laughing at those who fought for Brexit, but now can't accept the consequences.
@freemo I did try to build the qoto fork from git.qoto but ran into issues as my Debian was too new. It looks like the git hasn't been updated for 2 years. Some clients like Hyperspace refuse to connect to Qoto but work with vanilla Mastodon. But qoto is a fork which makes a much more user-friendly experience. Thank you 😊
I've just noticed the Mastodon API uses British English spelling 😀
@freemo is there a plan to get any of the nice features such as Domain follow into the main Mastodon trunk repo so that you can more easily keep qoto.org at a recent software version. Mastodon is on version 4.0 while qoto lags on 3.3 I think.
