Is there a costume that clearly reads as “robot maker” (to match my sons’ robot costumes)?

The best I’ve come up with is “mad scientist”, which doesn’t seem right to me.

@urusan What does that look like?

What outfit do I put on that the average people in my neighborhood will look at me and think, “Oh and he made the robots!”

@pganssle Roboticist on Google images and you'll see that the look is basically business casual with a T-Shirt. Think "young tech company engineer" or "grad student at a university".

You might also look at what kids in robotics competitions wear. It's basically the same outfit but more colorful.

If you want to make it more distinctly a costume, you might include a lanyard with a made up ID or competition badge. You can have fun with the contents.

A hoodie might be good if it's cold.

@urusan Yeah, pretty sure that’s just going to read as “Paul didn’t wear a costume”. Particularly since I am, in fact, a tech professional.

It needs to be an archetype recognizable to the average person as an actual costume.

@pganssle Hmm, I guess the "hacker" look would have the same issue.

In that case, your choices are basically mad scientist or cyborg.

@pganssle
The engineer outfit from Team Fortress 2 but with the words written on the helmet/overalls in sharpie.
