Something interesting I noticed on Mastodon vs Twitter after being on both for several years: posts get way more meaningful engagement here (per capita) than on Twitter.
I have an order of magnitude more followers on Twitter, but other than the occasional outlier, my posts here get similar numbers of likes, boosts and replies as they do over there.
It’s an interesting phenomenon, and I wonder if it will continue if more content is actually being generated on this side.
@Decad3nce @pganssle We don't depend on algorithms to decide which user gets to see what. Everybody has equal chance to browse the public timelines.
I love it. :)
@pganssle That doesn't bode well for me.
@pganssle I think the vibe in Mastodon is much more like a discussion forum from the good old days. Or a Slack community from the modern days.
Way different indeed from the vibe on Twitter. Where most people seem to want to defend their stance instead of engaging in a discussion.
@pganssle I think people feel less pressure about needing to stand out in their opinions and instead can just have a conversation.
At least that's what I hope it is.
