So Tesla self-driving is a long con that isn't going to happen without going back to the drawing board; a quality which it shares with Starship:
https://www.planetearthandbeyond.co/p/starship-was-doomed-from-the-beginning
"That is the real reason why Starship was doomed to fail from the beginning. It’s not trying to revolutionise the space industry; if it were, its concept, design, and testing plan would be totally different. Instead, the entire project is optimised to fleece as much money from the US taxpayer as possible, and as such, that is all it will ever do."

You have to go big to damage the Russian military enough in one night for it to register above what's normally done by its own internal petty theft and corruption.
It's finding its level. As thoughtful, discerning, educated, disciplined and/or principled people turn away from ever-greater swathes of LLM uses, the ChatGPTs, Groks, Llamas etc. will increasingly center on their core audience and user base: the people who aren't any of those things.
@evacide
Weird how they don't proactively search for possible domestic gunshot victims for _their_ safety
It's not even possible to parody these people.
@glyph
I'm just waiting for Elizabeth Holmes to announce "Theranos 2: Theranos, but with AI!"
@ColinTHFC Where I live the power company is raising rates and has abandoned its green energy plans-- which some customers have been paying up front for by paying a special green investment rate -- for the stated reason: the fines it has had to pay for starting wildfires with ill-maintained equipment.
I don't know how much he cares given that his new grift is that, having bought the Presidency for Trump, the Executive Branch simply shovels the US Treasury directly into his pockets.
Following the links here is just an endless tunnel of nightmares:
Everyone's had that colleague or intern who tried to write a solution when when he/she didn't really understand the problem. (If you're honest you've been that person, more than once.) AI is like a colleague who by definition cannot ever understand the problem.
@jstatepost Yeah, he's quite a cat in lots of ways.
Yesterday I discovered that not only do #crows distinguish between people, but also between #cats.
There's a neighborhood cat whose presence is always announced by the outraged crows yelling and swooping at him. But they pay no attention to our cat, even if he's walking right by them. i can only assume that the other cat has menaced them or their nests in some way, and Stanley never does that.
Anyway, yesterday three crows were standing quietly on our driveway apron looking at Stanley, as he sat looking back at them and meowing chattily from no more than 10 feet away.
To Stanley, a #bird is a person if he's ever seen us talking to it. I've spoken to scrub #jays, #hummingbirds and crows in his presence, and since then I've seen him talk to them as well.
@meduza_en I suspect a lot of the Russian POWs aren't looking forward to the massive reduction in quality of life that goes with being released and repatriated.

"For instance, there is some evidence dire wolves had reddish rather than white coats, "
So what's needed here are "dyer" wolves.

My latest bugbear is being promised "rewards". First it was your credit card, then it was your supermarket, your gas station, and now it's SAAS suites and heavily capitalized online "communities".
These confected entities really do try to invert the power relationship. I'll decide whether to "reward" you with my continued business, thank you very much.
If they really understood that it was unpopular, they'd charge more without the AI features, not less.
@bruces Amused to note the way the host abbreviates it to "SPC". I'm reminded of this silly Onion story from, damn, a quarter century ago, which stuck in my mind for some reason:

“I mean, ’JSM’? Who refers to Just Shoot Me as ’JSM’?”
@bruces
And let's not even bring up radiant beauty
@bruces
I'm just worried about dissipating by way of my sunny disposition

Why will people need childcare if they don't -- if guys like him get their way -- have jobs?
