Viruses are known as notorious killers, but to some organisms, they’re a tasty snack. This virus-eating could have a meaningful effect on how nutrients and energy flow through ecosystems. quantamagazine.org/with-nothin

Do you know it first hand like I know most climate activists are not vegan or is this something you heard somewhere? In my experience, AGW skeptics have no conflict of interest just like me.

Let me point out that AGW is decades old; for many years vegan people tried to stress the huge impact of animal farming on greenhouse gas emissions, only recently some climate activists started to promote a plant-based diet and that happened because there was real evidence.

Instead there is no evidence for AGW itself, this is why many people don't accept it and the way climate activists argue, full of scientism and positivism ideologies, won't convince them.

Don't bring in the fossil fuel industry to hide the inadequacy of climate activists.

@lightweight

There is no mountain of evidence and you just said you are believing to someone else and in particular to an abstract idea of scientific community. This is an ideology called positivism. I do science instead and check by myself.

About doing something good anyway: sorry but it's just rhetoric; you don't know if every measure taken in the name of reducing CO2 emissions has no bad side effects.

Anyway, of course you are vegan, right?

@lightweight

I am sorry but she is right, no one has produced that evidence.

Please don't call me ignorant, right-wing or something else. I am vegan for ethical reasons (while most so called climate activists are not despite how bad animal farming is in term of emissions) and I know enough about physics and dynamic systems not to be convinced at all.

For more than a decade I asked to so called climate activists to convince me but they are only able to say "science says so", "check IPCC reports" (that they have not read) and so on.

@lightweight

I know, that was just another example of EEE

There is Powertags plugin for that mimics Tana's supertags.

@vanillaos

This is exactly what I hoped distro did with Plasma System Settings instead of introducing inconsistent and poorly maintained tools like OpenSUSE's Yast.

Also, in my opinion the user should just be made aware of the "system", not the implementation details like which DE, WM, distro and so on, those should be hidden behind some "About" page and not leading to different configuration tools.

Drivers and PRIME Profiles are now placed inside GNOME Settings!

This means that you will no longer find them in the Vanilla Control Center.

A recent toot by @L_howes (I am unable to quote-toot) did let me rethink how important it is when using pure ML/AI protocols (particular generative ones) to always remember that they are intriguingly build on correlation only. Causation comes with the builder or user.
Thus generative AI like #ChatBotGPT does not do science, it mimics it. It does not create art, it copies and mimics it. And when we claim a language model makes things up, it really only does what it is trained for

@L_howes

The UI of these tools must make clear that it's a simulation, such as a movie is not reality no matter how plausible.

Here's a first... I just got an email because ChatGPT suggested an article I wrote to somebody. Could I send them a copy? Except, I never wrote the article, it doesn't exist. PLEASE realize right now that this tool isn't pulling out cool references for you. It's making plausible titles and matching them to authors names.

My problem with that “Bing told me it loves me” article is that the author waited until the last paragraphs to explain why, leading to misunderstanding about what’s messed up about it. (tldr: by mentioning jungian psychology and dark fantasies he primed the statistical model to cobble together dark, existential, and manipulative strings of words)

There is no concern that Bing is secretly alive or sentient.

There is concern this software could be harmful to people who don’t understand that.
