Faculty Position in Condensed Matter Theory - University of Pittsburgh
There will be some preference given to applications of those working in the following areas: Quantum Physics at the Interface of Physics, Quantum Information; Statistical Physics and Dynamical Systems; Strongly Correlated Systems; Quantum Control and Engineering in Novel Physical Systems; Quantum Simulations and Computations.
Wanna help out these folks start operations of Europe's first 10m-scale #atominterferometer? Check out the the PhD opening below and - if you don't mind - please share the news!

disappointing thread on #twitter (which I won't link to) of several scientists saying they can't be bothered joining mastodon because it's too much effort to follow two services...this is an incredibly blinkered view of what is happening here.
Over at the #VLBAI facility in Hannover we could use a hand for commencing operations of the 10m baseline! Please check out the newly opened position here:

How it started
Context: this is the hull of MAIUS-A, the infamous payload of MAIUS-1 which led to the first Bose-Einstein condensate in space
In other news, I think I have filled 5GB of RAM with an infinite appointment and can't use #Thunderbird anymore
About a year ago, with the help of #ESA, I partially answered that question by becoming an #astronot. Misspelling the name of the Director General Dr. Aschbacher absolutely did not do the trick.
Congrats to all new candidates of #ESA astronaut class of 2022 who will be officially announced today 👌👌👌!

An object is said to be "chiral" if you can't superimpose it with its mirror image (e.g. your hands).
Chiral molecules can have completely different chemical properties from their mirror image, but they also have different optical properties (which helps to detect them). In particular they react very differently to a circularly polarized wave. We can get some intuition on why that happens using a "balls and springs" toy model (Born-Kuhn model).
